My Story, My Life
God in His great wisdom knew what good gardeners Ciem and Katy Jones
Johnson were, so on July3, 1935, He decided to add just one more speciai flower
to their wonderful garden of seven. This special flower made number eight and
He called her Geraldine.
Geraldine was the youngest of eight siblings, one still born.
"Jerry" as she liked to be called was educated in San Antonio, Texas,
attending Booker T Washington School, Frederick Douglass Jr. High School,
Phillis Wheatley High School, and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Houston
TiHiston University in Houston, Texas. She was employed by Robert B. Green
Hospital in San Antonio before moving to Delaware. In 1966 she and her
daughter moved to Dover, DE, where she met and married John Bordley. Two
years later they were blessed with the "loud" arrival of Paul Douglass "Douggie"
Bordley.
Geraldine was employed for a short time at Lumars. She was also
employed by Playtex Apparel Inc, retiring after 30 years. Upon retiring "Jerry"
embarked upon a new career, "Have Suitcase Will Travel." She could be ready
to travel in a flash, and if T. D. Jakes was anywhere nearby, "Jerry" was going to
go see him.
She was a devoted mother to "Pam," "Douggie,," and adopted daughter
Ruby. She was an absolutely doting grandmother to Joshua, Khadijah and her
adopted grandson, Mike.
In this garden of Clem and Katy's; after nourishing and raising these
seven beautiful flowers, Cod called them to rest, followed by Clem, Jr, Eleanor,
Clara Dell, Johnny and Sammie Lee.
"Dean, "as her sister Minnie always called her, was devoted to her church,
Calvary Baptist, and her heart was firmly planted in the Calvary Baptist Youth
Church. "Jerry's" church activities included the following: member of the Floral
Guild, past president and member of the Missionary Society, Youth Church
Advisor, Pastor's Aide Committee, Vacation Bible School worker, Church School
activity member, the Voices Of Calvary and the Capitol Nursing Home Ministry.
She was also a Youth Advisor to the National Baptist Deacons Convention of
America, Inc. and Auxiliary Advisor for the Youth Choir. Geraldine was a
member of the Theta Zeta Zeta Chapter Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She was also one
