Obituary
The elegance of a lady and the essence of a woman was the
embodiment of Ms. DeBra' Denise Doris Deckard, born June 19,
1962, the third child to the proud parents of Mr. and Mrs. S. L.
(Doris) Deckard, Sr.
Her inquisitive, creative nature for the arts was nurtured in music
by her accomplished songstress mother and Mrs. Julia D. Kemple,
wife of Reverend James A. Kemple, then pastor of West End Baptist
Church.
This developing talent would find her achieving the position of
drummer on the Central Catholic/Providence High School Band.
She too made time to be trained and become an accomplished
classical soprano in the Providence High School Choir, receiving
several state competition awards for the school choir. Completing
high school in May 1981, she satisfied the taste for fashion by
becoming a semiprofessional model across the breadth of San
Antonio and Texas. She willingly shared her talents with young
ladies in the community and her present home church which she
joined in 1984 with her parents.
DeBra' pursued a formal education September 1981 with a
Major in Fashion Design and Minor in Business Administration at
Incarnate Word College and Our Lady of The Lake University until
May 1986. She completed Graduate Studies at American Institute
of Banking December, 1989.
During that period she completed and won the coveted title
of"Delta Queen of Hearts", Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., San
Antonio Alumnae Chapter. She was a member of the 1982-1983
Coterie of Van Courtlandt Debutantes, being formally presented
in a garden setting at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens in May,
1983.
DeBra's professional job careers were a potpourri of building
blocks where she was currently employed as an Administrative
Assistant in the Building Inspections Department of San Antonio
until she was called home to be with the Lord, Wednesday
morning, July 8, 1998.
She leaves to fondly remember her, her parents, S. L and Doris
F. Deckard, Sr., brother, S. "Stan" L Deckard, II, San Antonio, a
sister, Cassandra nSandie" Pae and brother-in-law Bruce Allen;
niece Angela Nicole and nephew, Christopher Michael Allen, all
of Victorville, California; adopted sister and brother-in-law Barbara
and William Motley, Jr. and William Motley III; uncle and aunt Dr.
and Mrs. Charles C. Andrews, Sr., San Antonio, aunts, Mrs. Myrtle
Swanson, Mrs. Ruth Wiley, Mrs. Olivia Word and Mrs. Ina Boyd of
Palestine, Texas; aunt, Mrs. Freda Turner, Redwood, California; a
host of cousins from the Anderson, Andrews, Boyd, Hudson,
Swanson, Wiley and Word families, California, Louisiana, and Texas;
and a multitude of co-workers and friends across the breadth of
these United States.
