their cnatomera specie change. A:
great many people have suddenly be-
come dry, take a drink, throw down
a greenback, and walk off with silver
giogling in their pockets. A strange
sonnd outside of Texas. The liqnor

Some mad cap who possesses n lead
pencil and can gain admispion to the
oolomna of a newspaper, writes a
foolish and bitter paragraph against
Radicalism, and forthwith the State
Journal and Honaton Union are
seized with tevrible rebel-phobia
spasms. They take these wild ex
pressions as an indication that the
people of Texas are still disloyal. We
say to these editors, as we said to the
Galveston News, when it advised the
Democrats in the Legislature to stay
away from the Capitol and thus break
a quorum and defeat reconstruction,.
the people of Texas at the late election
declared very emphatically for recon-
struction, with all the requirements
of the laws of oCngress.
The vote in favor of this was, in;
round numbers, 90,000, and only 5000
against oar constitution with its so
knowledged objectionable features.
Personally, Mr. Stuart was by far the
most popular candidate tor Governor.
But he was pat forward by those few
extreme men whose loyalty to the
government was seriously questioned.
Mr* 8. received in the whole State less
than one thousand votes. This em-
phatic declaration of loyalty onght to
be sufflolent to defend the people of
Texas from the railing accusations
brought against them by Radical edi
tors. ' " •' - to u -

The San- Antonio Herald has chang-
ed its tactios and comes out in favor
of the Democratic party. As long as
it runs on this track, it shall have oar
best wishes. Its denunciation of the;
third party movement, lately inaa«;
garated by the ilouaton Telei
is eminently just. It speaks kindly
of the establishment of a Democratic
organ at the capital by opr friend
Thompson, and hereby shows that the
editor's head ia level.—Lavaca Com-
mercial. WiHV.k'.-ffl' 'irn n:tt\t
We deny that the . Herald has
"changed Its tactics." It has all the
time been working to one purpose,
namely, a return to people rule, in
opposition to bayonet role. When
we get this accomplished, it will be a
most essential step in the right direct
tion. Then if a judicious reorganizes
these reasons wo shall discountenance
premature and ill-considered move-
ments like that of the third party re-
ferred to above.—8an Antonio Her-
ald.
