county in the State and will have
25,000 inhabitants. Don't ask us
no questions, but to all persons who
have not got homes in Jasper coun

will regret it.

The citizens of our town
were delighted last Friday night,
with an e&hibitiou by the fbespian
Cfub. We heard mauy say it was
the most interesting thing they have
seen lor years. The reuown Drama
''Custe" was played in a style that
would do credit to old heads in the
businesss. O. W. Bhke as D'Ai<
roy, R. B. Blake as Capt Hautreaf
and Royal Blackshear as S m Uer-
ridge, can not be beat; while Miss
Mollie Gi breath as Marchioness
de St Mars, Mies Minnie Belk as
Esther jind -Miss Clara Blake as
Polly, the don't care what you say,
pcrsonitied the cbaraters exactly.
Miss Juliet Haynes also deserves
meution for tbe happy manner in
whioh she represented Mrs. Jlfpnt'
gomery. Several other' pcices de-
serve notice, but we huven.'t space.
One, however, we must uot over
look, tbe Pantomine of Pochahon-
tas saving John Smith. Miss Ma-
tilda White as Pocbaboatas, dres>
eed like an Indian maiden, was peri
fectly lovely. Si e looked good
enough to eat. We represented
tbe celebrated Smith whose sir name
was John. Ge wbilikcns, how we
did wish tbe play was true, that we
were John ami Miss Matilda Pooh
ahontas .We think for such a pret<
ty Indian we could whip a whole
a cow pen full of big. ugly he In-
dians.
After tho performance the young
had a nice little cottilion party, and
we bad the pleasure of danciug with
the prettiest young lady in.tbe
county.
.The Beacon has come at as
in a lenghty article which it calls
a "Lame Delense," and it is just
about as lame a defence as could
well be conceived. We guess we
are about even without wasting any
more room fussing. Our readers
are not gaiuing any valuable imfop
mation from either, and as we have
given the Beacon about as much no-
toriety as we wish for no pay, we
will drop him. We don't appre-
ciate, however, Mc's. way of not
sending us his paper when he says
anything about us. We have liad
to borrow the last three copies to
find out what he said. This part
of his doings, if done intentionally,
we must say is ungenerous, uukind
aud ungentlemanly.
toT We wish ail onr readers, and
everybody else a happy New Year.
Now, that another year has set in(
let us all determine to do better,
be better, live better, work harder,
mako more, live more eoonomical,
and at the end of tbe present year
bo a better, wiser, wealther and
happier people. All can be if they
only try,
