Bastrop will celebrate November
-* as Thanksgiving Day this year,
contrary to the President's proclama-
tion setting November 21 as the na-
tional observance of the Day of
Thanks.
j I'he stores and schools will l e clos-
' "d on November 2N, and all Thank--
I giving services will be held on or a-
i bout that date.
Phis decision has t een reached
through the fact that the A. & M-
Tcxas football game, annually play-
ed on Thanksgiving Day, and one of
the major attractions ol the yczr in
this section of Texas, is scheduled on
November 2>. However, the changing
of the date of Thanksgiving does not
in any way affect its purpose or ori-
gin, nor does !• give us any reason
to be less thankful for the bountiful
blessings the Lord has i>tsto, vtd upon
us during the past year. In fact from
the standpoint of expressing grati-
tude. we will do well to be observ-
ing both days!
Wt hop. that next, year the foot-
ball game may be scheduled to cor-
respond with the new Thanksgiving
date and that We will observe it her-t.
this brings Armistice Day
and Thanksgiving Day only ten days
apart, merchants are given an opptc-
tunity of nn additional week's bus:
less before Christmas, making th*
Christmas shopping time a week
longer, which is an advantage both to
*h • metchant and to the shopper.

Thi Christmas season i- rapidly
approaching, as any one who has hat!
H'easioti to visit our neighboring cit-

"rushing th. season," but we do fe >!
that local merchants are sleeping on
