Jefferson Street
Property Owner* Offered
Release From Contract
Mayor Rogers, after a detail
ed explanation of the paving
projects of Pecan and Jefferson
Street , stated that -ome of the
■leffeison Street property owners
feel free to withdraw their con-
tract with the city, and as the
work continued, the city paving
would go down, but the curbing
and guttering would skip pro-
perty of those individuals who
did not want it. He asked that
they think it over and let the
city know in a few days.
Going over again the facts
leading to the two paving pro-
jects, Mayor Rogers said that,
when the city dqfnded that they
hail available a small fund to
begin repaving the streets, they
selected Jefferson Street to use
a- a model, suggesting to the
residents that since the limited
funds would not permit the city's
financing the entire job. property
ownei might each pay for their
own curbing, guttering and -trip
paving to meet the city's
paving.
The cout il felt tnat the com-
; let ion of om street it town
ii ight -i i ve as an nn ent ivt to
other property owners to ^o in
Aitl the city and curb and gut
t i other streets, a program
which would add very consider-
ably to the overall attractiveness
• f the town, as well a- giving
owners a highet resale value for
the property.
All council member;■ and
official were present at
meeting and an invitation
i - sued by the council to all
/a ns who have questions
problem.- concerning the city's
bust n e s s to meet with the
council at any time.

Last Two Weeks Are Hardest-
Getting Ready For llomeeoming
city

and
It's here again—the last two
weeks before Homecoming, with
just enough time left to get a
letter off to the "folks" to be
sure and come down on August
3-4-5, to get the house and yard
cleaned up for "company", to
shake out that piece of bunting
to go across the store front, and
to whip together a float for the
parade!
Yep, Ha.-trop'll be pretty busy
the next two weeks.
Things'll have to be slicked up
out at the Rodeo Arena to be
ready for Lloyd Woodley's Wild
West Rodeo, with its thrills and
.-pills and specialty acts in three
big shows —one every night!
The American Legion Center
will have to be whipped into
shape to take care of the crowd-
that will fill the delightful, e\
pansivi tat light terrace on each
of the three night- after the
rodeo -fiow to dance to the music
of three popular bands.
A lot of work has to be done
in a short time to get ready foi
tin Bathing Beauty Revue which
will feature a parade of cen-
tra! leva- beauties around the
State Park Swimming Pool at
ii o'clock on Friday afternoon.
Bob Wat-on's parade entries
are ,-haping up, but we're go
ii g to need a few more, so get
ii touch with Bob and tell him
to put you down for a float.
The Marathon Boat Races could
use a few more entries, too. They
start a M mtopolis Bridge in
A u s t i n at 2:30 on Saturday
afternoon and prizes run first
place, $180; second place. $120;
third place. $80 and fourth place.
$40. Get your entry blank from
Billy Voigt.
t'earlie Jeirei Berry i- raking
writing her at Box 10K, Kastrop.
And by the way, the Motor-
cade has to get organized so
they can take out about the first
of week after next. Sheriff Jum-
mie Nutt is going to need a
lot a backing and moral sup-
port to get it together, so all
of you who can and will, call
him and let him know you ar«
ready to help him. It's a big
job, but it's a lot of fun, too,
and contributes a lot to tha
success of the annual celebration.
Lincoln Farris general chair-
man. -ays things look pretty
good to him, and if each one of
u- take- care of our own re-
-pon-ibilities, we'll have a bang-
up good Homecoming and Rodeo
on August i-4-n.
