The Flag Code
presented in the
public interest
Of special interest to all
Scouting groups, youth organi-
zation.-. and patriotic clubs, the
page on The Flag Code should
be of interest also to every
citizen.
In a time of unusual tension
and stress throughout the
5 world, one of the best ways
to provide a feeling of .-secu-
rity for children and for a-
dults i< to give them a heal
thy respect for their country.
In teaching respect for the
flag which represents the ideals
upon which this, the ,-trongest
nation in the world, wa- found-
ed. an inherent respect and
love for the institutions which
made it the greatest nation in
the world are developed.
I I- where in this i- -ue. The
Flag Code is presented with
tin* hope that it will be clip

lolti at board
meeting Monday
A sound plan for fiscal sta-
bility was the chief topic for
discus-ion at a meeting of the
Board of Directors of the Bas-
i trop Chamber of Commerce
1 held at 4:00 p. m. at the cham-
; her office on Monday, December
j ''I'
Earl Dcnson, presiding offi-
cer. appointed committee chair-
! men to carry out suggested
phases of a plan to encourage
membership and prompt pay-
ment of current Chamber dues.
Members who are current will
receive a new-type Chamber of
Commerce sign dated with the
present year to display pro-
minently at their respective
places of business; each mem-
! her will receive a letter stat-
ing the balance due on his
Chamber account; current mem-
bers names are to be published
in the Bastrop Advertiser.
Calling for an intensive ef-
fort to form a plan-of work to-
ward definite and specific
goals, both during the current
y.*ar and on a long range ba-
sis. Chamber of Commerce ma-
nager Harold Goerner noted the
broad possibilities for progress
made possible by the coming
LCRA Sim Gideon steam plant.
Board members present were
Mr. Dcnson, Mr. Goerner, Dan
Lloyd, George Swilley, James
Kershaw, John Printy, C. A
Long and Riley Hatfield.
Bastrop among
10 top Ceii-Texas
stories for 1962
Bastrop rated third in the
Cen-Texas Top Ten Stories of
Hlt;;i ii- reported by the Aus-
tin American-Statesman corres-
pondents covering 35 cities and
1 town- of central Texas.
The stories on the proposed
LCRA 17-1* million dollar
team plant, later named the
Sim Gideon Steam Plant, earn-
ed the town the third top story
rating.
Progress is rapidly going
forward >r the steam plant-
lake site contruction, and it is
hard for local people who have
i not been to the location recent-
ly to visualize just how much
work is going on out there,
