Ray Warner
Ray Warner is co-chair of the 2006 AIDS Life Walk, which steps on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Lee
Park. Registration for the walk begins at 11:30 p.m. at the park, and the registration fee is $25.
How did you first get involved with AIDS LifeWalk?
I had done some volunteer stuff around breast cancer because my mother died of breast cancer.
But I had also lost several of my friends to AIDS, and I felt like I needed to get involved and
do my part. I had a friend who was involved in LifeWalk, so I thought I would check it out. I
thoroughly enjoyed it, so I decided to stick with it. I will be co-chair again next year, and then
the year after that I will be the chair.
What kind of events were you involved regarding the issue of breast cancer?
I walk in the the Susan G. Komen 5K every year, and I also do the three-day, 60-mile breast
cancer walk each year. I will be doing both of those again this year. The Komen race is three
weeks after LifeWalk, in fact.
Do yol do any other kind of volunteer work.
I ateo.'t'olunteer at the Nelson-Tebedo Health Resource Center as an HIV counselor and a phle-
botomist.
What Ibout your actual, paying job?
I wlrk as a plan manager for ING Financial. It's a full-time job, but I still find time for my
volunteer work and to do some work around the house.
Who do you share your life with?
fcha^e a partner. We've been together for going on 17 years now. We have two dogs and a
house out in Carrollton. We moved out there about 10 years ago.
