COLONEL LLOYD G. HUGGINS
Colonel Lloyd G. Huggins, an Infantry officer, assumed command of
U. S. Army Primary Helicopter Center, Fort Wolters, 26 September 1967.
He came to Fort Wolters from an assignment as deputy commander of the
U. S. Army Flight Training Center, Fort Stewart, Georgia.
Born in 1921 in Chillicothe, Ohio, Colonel Huggins entered the military
in May 1942. He saw combat during World War II with the 60th Infantry, Ninth
Division in the European Theater of Operations.
He also saw action in Korea in 1951 as a battalion commander with the
35th Infantry. The colonel served a second tour in Korea in 1965-66 as Chief of
Staff, 2nd Infantry Division.
Other assignments included serving as professor of Military Science and
Tactics at Tarleton State College, Stephenville, Texas, from 1952-1954. Following
this, he served for three years as a member of the staff and faculty of the British
Army Staff College, Camberly, England and for two years in the Office of the
Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations on the Department of Army Staff.
From 1962-1965, Colonel Huggins was a member of the staff and faculty of
the Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia.
The Colonel is qualified in both fixed and rotary wing aircraft. He completed
the fixed wing flight training in April 1961 and rotary wing flight training in July 1961.
Colonel Huggins civilian education includes four years of Chemical
Engineering at the University of Maryland from 1938-1942 and two years study in
Personnel Management at George Washington University extension, Norfolk,
Virginia from 1963-1965.
The colonel is a 1955 graduate of the Army Command and General Staff
College and a 1952 graduate of the Army War College.
Colonel Huggins wears two awards of the Silver Star Medal, the Legion of
Merit, four awards of the Bronze Star Medal, two awards of the Purple Heart, the Joint
Services Commendation Medal and the Combat Infrantryman's Badge.
He married the former Louise Johnson of Center, Texas. Colonel and Mrs.
Huggins have three children: Robert, Stephen, and Patricia.
