Celebrating her 100th
Odessia Haywood Bibbs, origi-
nally of Bastrop County, will cel-
ebrate her 100th birthday March
23.
Bibbs was born Odessia
Haywood on March 23, 1908, the
fourth of 11 children bom to the
late Steve and Nancy Gradington
Haywood.
Bibbs moved to Taylor in 1928,
and in 1929, moved her church
membership to Allen Chapel
A.M.E. Church, where she mar-
ried the late Jimmie Bibbs and is
still a member today.
She is described as still being
blessed with vitality and vigor,
and still lives at home, taking pub-
lic transportation each weekday
from Taylor to the Adult Day Care
Center in Round Rock.
Odessia Bibbs is celebrating her 100th
birthday March 23.
Annual ildlife Extravaganza
coming to Smithville April 12
The wildlife management
associations of Bastrop and
Caldwell County are joining
again this year to hold their 4th
annual Wildlife Extravaganza
at Riverbend Park in Smithville
on Saturday. April 12, begin-
ning at 1 p.m. The event is
free and open to the public and
includes door prizes.
Beginning at 1 p.m. there
will be numerous vendors and
exhibits in an outdoor setting
for those interested in wild-
life and habitat management.
Texas Parks and Wildlife
Department will display its
Operation Game Thief trailer.
Eveiyone is encouraged to
bring and display locally-har-
vested antlers and/or photo-
graphs to illustrate the region's
deer quality.
Children's activities from 1
p in. to 5 p.m. will include Laser
Shot, archery, horseshoes, fish-
ing games and a moon walk.
There will be a photo contest
with four categories: wildlife,
scenery and outdoors, remote
camera and youth wildlife,
scenery and outdoor photos
(17 and under).
There is a limit of five
entries per category at $1 per
entry. Photos will be displayed
digitally and must be submit-
ted in digital format.
The awards for the Lost
Pines Big Buck contest will
also be presented before the
auction.
The auction, bucket and
pre-sale raffle will start at
4 p.m. and will be followed
by a barbecue dinner. WMA
members are encouraged to
bring desserts to complement
the chicken and sausage bar-
becue.
Proceeds from the event
are used to provide scholar-
ships for students in Bastrop
and Caldwell County, spon-
sor youth to attend education-
al wildlife/outdoor camps,
sponsor educational wildlife
programs, assist members
with wildlife habitat manage-
ment activities and support
other wildlife conservation
organizations.

Area Deaths
Opal Stoltz-
Opal Pearl Stoltz, 82, died in
Smithville on Sunday. March 16,
2008.
She was born in Dale on Oct.
30, 1925 to Blake and Velina
Cowden. She was an LVN Nurse
for many years and a member
of the First Baptist Church of
Bastrop and the Eastern Star. She
is survived by her daughter Lorene
and husband Ronnie Young of
Spring, her son Ronald Stoltz of
Graham, a brother Velton Cowden
of Dallas; eight grandchildren and
nine great-grandchildren; as well
as her former husband and close
friend Richard Stoltz of Ada,
Oklahoma. She was preceded in
death by her parents.
The funeral service was at
Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral
Home on March 19 with Jordan
Young officiating. Burial followed
at the Lockhart City Cemetery.
Winnie Hancock
Opal Stoltz
Winnie "Goldie" Lee
Hancock, 90, died Friday,
March 14 at Memorial
Herman Southwest Hospital
in Houston.
She was born in Bastrop
on Dec. 12, 1917 to Josh
Mary Ann Lee. She was
preceded in death by her
parents, husband Lee
Hancock, four brothers
M.J. Lee, William Arthur
Lee, Jasper P. Lee and
Henry Clay Lee, three sis-
ters Arzelia White, Ula B.
Hopkin and Ruth Branch.
She is survived by daugh-
ter Goldie Washington of
Fort Worth, two grand-
children, one great grand-
child, son-in-law Reginald
Sanders Sr. of Fort Worth
and numerous nieces, neph-
ews and friends.
Services were held
Thursday, March 20 at St.
Mary's Baptist Church in
Ledbetter with Rev. Fred
Jones officiating.
Memorials may be
made to St. Mary's Baptist
Cemetery Fund or the char-
ity of ones choice.
