is called "brigade trains."
But as the brigades require

true of any combat support ele

the supply of equipment or

secondary role is that of a com

was one significant change
however.
Instead of selecting a
coordinator for the support
teams from the staff officers
of one of the battalions this
time Discom assigned its assis
tant operations officer Capt.
Gary C. Calloway. "I believe
the elements of Discom learned
a tremendous amount from this
new method of operation. I know
I did" said Calloway.
In commentng on Discom's
participation Calloway said
"I'm a combat arms man and
not yet used to all the roles
of the support units but I
believe the companies represen
ting the sapport battalions did
a very fine job. The 48th Med.
Bn. conducted one of the finest
road marches I've ever seen."
Discom's participation in the
field exercise is part of its
preparation for the readiness
exericse Boldshot Brimfire
which combines the striking
power of the Army and the
Air Force.

A 26 per cent decrease in
fatalities from privately owned
vehicle mishaps was recorded
by Fourth U.S. Army during
fiscal year 1970.
The significant reduction ac
cording to Earl J. Krotzer
Fourth Army safety director
is attributed directly to in
creased command recognition of
motor vehicle accident problems
and to the increased use of
the Continental Army Command
sponsored eight-hour defensive
driving course taken by nearly
000 soldiers during the year.
Over the Fourth of July
holidays he said one Fourth
Army soldier was killed in a
traffic accident compared to
three who lost their lives during
the same period a year ago.
Krotzer said that plans have
been made to assure that more
a 5 0 0 0 0
replacements during this fiscal
year will receive defensive
driving training within 60 days
of their assignment to Fourth
Army installations
He added that the gratifying
