SCRAMBLED EGGS ANYONE?—
Two members of the Air Force liaison
group examine the box of unbroken
eggs that were lowered to them by
helicopter while a soldier from the 2nd
George C. Scott has gone but
Patton remains in the picture
as plans were announced last
week for a campaign fund to
up or he a to
Museum located at Ft. Knox
Ky.
What once started as the
collection of captured arms and
tanks of World War II has turn
ed into a fast-growing array of
armor and mobile warfare
memorabilia. It has expanded
from a Third Army project to
its complete coverage of the
armor story and present space
at the museum does not afford
an accurate depiction of such
history.
Lt. Col. Richard Cardillo ex
ecutive officer of 2nd Armd.
Div. 3rd Bde. has taken the
responsibility of project officer
for Ft. Hood's participation in
the fund-raising campaign.
The combined efforts of the
Cavalry-Armor Foundation Inc.
the Patton Museum Society and
the US Army Armor School are
needed to convert the present
museum dedicated in 1949 to
the planned 112-acre complex.
This is where the individuals
New Patton Museum
Planned For Ft. Knox
stationed at Ft. Hood come in.
Contributions of as little as five
dollars are all that is needed
to take part in the construction
of the proposed museum. Dona
tions will be appreciated in
a am
minimum will allow a lifetime
membership in the Cavalry
Armor Foundation.
The idea behind the establish
ment of a new museum is not
just to give more space to new
exhibits but also to preserve
the old mementos. There will
be a unity of learning and work
ing in the new building with
the addition of such attractions
as a Hall of Technology a com
prehensive library and archives
and a Hall of Mobile Warfare.
The library is hopeful of ob
a in in an el on a a
transmission network which will
be capable of allowing access
to records and documents stored
at the Library of Congress the
National Archives and the US
Army Library.
The $3000000 complex will
also house a Hall of Flags a

MASSTER Radar Test
Battery A 1st Bn. 92nd Field
Arty. 2nd Armd. Div. spent
most of January and February
in a supporting role with Project
MASSTER. This departure from
the battery's normal artillery
mission came as a result of
DivArty's commitment to MAS-
STER's testing of. the RATAC
radar system in conjunction with
A S S E A A I I a
TRICAP test.
The support began Jan. 3
when the test site was set up
at Anderson Mt. on the west
ranges. Testing ended Feb. 25
and data from the tests is being
evaluated.
Capt. Richard A. Phalan
Btry. A commanding officer ex
plained "Not only was the bat
talion's Fire Direction Center
(FDC) S-2 and S-3. Btry. A
provided support personnel and
equipment. These men collected
and reduced data for the eval
uation."
The primary use of RATAC
is ground surveillance. However
it was tested for use in the
adjustment of artillery and
helicopter tracking or detection
vectoring.
The radar can help friendly
aircraft to maneuver during bad
weather conditions. Direction
corrections are given to move
the aircraft from point to point.
Included in the testing was
the possible use of RATAC in
several different types of tac
tical employment with direct
support artillery an intelligence
battalion an armor head
quarters company at brigade
level or a TRICAP battalion.
Data from these tests and
recommendations made by
MASSTER will help determine
whether RATAC will replace the
TPS-25 radar now being used.
