The highlight of the day
was the fun and games por
tion of the program during
which military personnel
civilian employees depen
dents and other guests par
ticipated in a round of old
fashioned "county fair" ac
tivities. The competitive
events included an egg toss
a sack race a carry-the-
orange-under-your-neck relay
and a 10-man lash-up.
No one really cared who
the winning teams were in
each activity the real fun
was in watching the breaking
eggs and the improbable
physical contortions required
to reach the various finish
lines.

MASSTER people have nice time
in the 10-man lash-up
however. In this event 10
persons are tied together and
required to run and turn like
a giant centipede. The upset
of the event was that a team
fielded by the MASSTER
secretaries won hands down
over all opponents.
One team in the lash-up
was composed of generals
and colonels another of field
grade officers and another of
company grade officers. The
generals and colonels were
completely routed by the
secretaries in the first two-
team heat and the company
grade officers flashed ahead
of the field grade officers in
the second heat. However in
and
the final heat the secretaries
walked away from the com
pany grade officers who had
fallen in a muddy heap at
mid-field.
In the more-organized
athletic events winners were
named in the cross-country
races and the singles and
doubles finals of the
MASSTER tennis tour
nament.
In the seniors category of
the cross-country race Lt.
Col. Richard Renfro covered
the 2.6-mile course in 18
minutes and 20 seconds.
Placing second was Col.
Richard Crane with a time
of 19 minutes and 35 seconds.
