Credit Hours to be Awarded to Graduates of Schools of
Preaching and Bible Schools
The Department of Bible, Missions, and Ministry of Abilene
Christian University assists graduates from schools of preaching and
Bible training schools to complete the requirements toward a
bachelor's degree in Christian ministry at ACU.
Although it is not possible within the University's academic
structure to accept courses transferred from schools not accredited
by the regular college and university accrediting agencies, ACU's
College of Biblical Studies has a plan to help prospective students
make this transition in a manner that satisfies accrediting agency
requirements.
The school from which the student graduates must be approved by
the dean of the College of Biblical Studies and the College of
Biblical Studies Academic Council, demonstrating that it has met
certain sound academic standards. Approved schools must conduct a
program covering at least two years of full-time study.
The student applying for entrance to ACU from such an approved
school of preaching or Bible training school will be placed on
probation for one semester as a full-time student. During theabove. The student who achieves the required GPA may then be
awarded up to 48 hours of college credit for his or her work at a
school of preaching or Bible training school.
The possible 48 hours awarded to the student are as follows:
1. Lower level Bible-up to 12 hours
2. Upper level Bible-up to 43 hours
3. COMS 112, Fundamentals of Human
Communication/Religious Emphasis (for practical
experience)-3 hours
The student receiving credit from a school of preaching or Bible
school is subject to the degree requirements list in the General
Requirements for Bachelor's Degrees of this catalog as well as the
requirements for the chosen major.
A brochure describing this program is available from the
Department of Bible, Missions, and Ministry.
Honors Program Admission
The Honors Program offers enriched study to qualified
undergraduates in any major. The four-year track of University
Honors includes 30 semester hours. The two-year track
(Departmental Honors) includes 12 hours. Ordinarily, no extra
courses are required. Contact the director (see the Honors Program
section of this catalog) for information on admission, special courses,
and social events.
Intercollege Enrollment-The Abilene University
Consortium
Students enrolled at Abilene Christian University may also enroll for
courses at either Hardin-Simmons University or McMurry
University. Likewise, students enrolled at Hardin-Simmons or
McMurry may concurrently enroll for courses at ACU without
going through the regular admission process. Intercollege
enrollment forms may be secured in the Registrar's Office.
Students taking courses through intercollege enrollment will be
charged the tuition rate of the school where the course is offered;
however, billing is handled by the institution in which the student is
matriculated.
When a required course cannot be taken at ACU in a sequence that
would permit timely graduation, and a similar course is offered in
the Abilene University Consortium, ACU students should first apply
in the Office of the Registrar to take the course within the Abilene
University Consortium, which includes Abilene Christian University,
Hardin-Simmons University, and McMurry University.
Courses taken by ACU students through intercollege enrollment
count toward degree requirements provided approval has been
secured in advance. It is the student's responsibility to make certain
that courses taken through this arrangement will satisfy his or her
individual degree requirements. Course work in a given major must
be approved on an intercollege enrollment form by the academic
adviser and the ACU department chair. In an area in which ACU
