We enjoy the anticipation of see-

yard covered over wlift green with
strong healthy shade trees furnlsh-
1 ing shelter from the burning sun
and beautiful flowers bfcoinliig a-
long the borders of the substantial
concrete walks and then we can say
It Is the prettiest court square In
West Texas.
The wtilks are there the shrub-
bery nnd flowering plants are grow
lug the shade tn-es are getting well
started and grass Is being planted.
These will be kept watered with
the City's fire hose and there Is no
reason why tho land may not s;x n
he well set In grass and trees and
shrubbery kept growing.
We will soon have a court ytird
that will be an attractive featuro of
tho town.
A Resolution.
Whereas Sovereign T. K. Haker
an honored and respected member of
Valentine Camp No. 544 Woodmen
of the World has been the victim of
a series of unfortunate circum-
stances which have but recently
culminated in an overwhelming dis-
aster to him ami
Whereas Sovereign Haker has liv-
ed In our town of Snyder for about
fifteen years and his dally life as
a citizen as a business man as a
fraternal brother and as a Christian
gentleman has come under our con-
stant observation therefore
Me It resolved that. We the mem-
bers of Valentine Camp Woodmen
of the World hereby express to
Sovereign Baker
1st. Our unshaken confidence In
his honor and Integrity
2nd. Our appreciation of his past
labors In upbuilding our order and
expounding tho principle of Wood-
craft. 3rd. Our sense of the loss that
has fallen upon the business social
fraternal an rellgous life of our
town. If we are to be deprived ot
his presence
4th. That we are his friends and
whether his absence be short or long
he should ever look forward to his
return to Snyder as a return to those
whose frlenc.ihip Is proof against
any arbitrary dictum of society
where he may safely stand on that
broad plank in humanity's platform
written by the Immortal Burns:
"The rank Is but the guinea's
stamp.
The man's the gold for a' that."
lie It resolved further that a
copy of these resolutions be sent to
Sovereign Haker a copy furnished
to the local paper and a copy spread
upon the minutes of this camp.

Socialist Kicks on Itccnrd
To the Signal --
I notice you reproduce an article
from fort Worth Itecord on Social-
ism In Milwaukee. I wish to file ob-
jection A part of that article in true and
part of lr' Is false. It. Is true that
the people became so disgusted
with conditions that they elected a
socialist Mayor and a majority of
the City council. It. is true that a
fusion ticket defeated the Socialists
at the last election.
It Is not true that after two years
conditions are found to tie worse
than ever. The fact Is tho Socialists
gave the people a good lionest ad-
ministration and has been so stat-
ed by scores of their political ene-
mies. It Is not a fact that Socialist prin-
ciples proved Impracticable. The So-
cialists at no time have had a ma-
jority of votes In Milwaukee.. Seldel
and his associates polled in 1910
20000 fotes. Socialists have every
cause to feel pleased over tho gain
In votes which will approximate 11
or 15000 greater than when they
captured the administration An-
other such victory and the two old
parties will be undone.
The Record said It. was a tryout
of Socialism and It failed to bring
relief. It was not a tryout of So-
cialism. The Socialists did not have
the power to repeal class laws as tho
Itecord Is bound to know.
Scientists say that history and sci-
ence points to Socialism lie thinks
it might be tried but llrst the con-
sciences of all men must be scan li-
ed and regenerated In other words.
Von cannot change liiiinan mil urc.
I will admit lhaf It would be hard
to change the Itecord Man's nature.
However the rest of us place our
children in the best surroundings
possible to keep them from being of
a vicious nature. The human being
could not have evoluted from sav-
iigry through barbarism to civiliza-
tion without changing his nature
his ethics and morals. The liecord Is
hazy when II conies to I lie question
of Socialism. He has not yet discov-
ered the difference between Social-
ism and Anarchy as he uses I lie
i term synonlniously. If he does know
the difference he Is trying to fool
hi- ... lf lo kll(nv .
difference he would not know wheth
er Socialism would be practical or
not
Respectfully yours

The Model Citizen
The address by Rev. J. W. Hunt
at the Court house Tuesday evening
May 7 while largely humorous Is
a discussion In a serio-comic vein
of the requirements of citizenship
and Is designed to lie especially help
fill to the young people while en-
tertaining and lii'iiirlug to all. No
stale jokes hut clean original fun
runs through the whole address.
This with songs by the mixed and
male quartettes will make an eve-
ning's entertainment you will long
remember.

I'litids tor Drilling
The meeting of owner.4 of lots in"
the oil field to be i -ld at the Court
House Saturday means much for
Snyder.
The well Is now according to ex-
pert theories within a few feet of
the oil stratum and a few hundred
dollars will complete the develop-
ment. To abandon the effort now will bo
to throw away the greatest prospect
of untold wealth ever presented to
our people. Hy putting up a small a-
inount more the drillers will be able
to go deeper and it Is confidently
believed that live hundred feet fur-
ther will tell the tale Shall wo stop
with the oil In easy reach or shall
wo make one more effort to reap
tho beiietls from the money and time
already expended. If there are any
who are able to put up for the work
who are holding back to let. the ef-
forts of other citizens make them
rich b't us hope they may realize
now that they are going to be disap-
pointed unless they ara willing to
loosen up and help the community
In the efforts for development. Now
is the time to act in Hie matter
for If we stop now all our hopes
will vanish In tiiin air.
