EMPIRE LODGE
GOING GOOD
Never before In its history, per-
haps, has greater interest been man-
ifested in the progress of a fraternal
secret order, as has been shown by
the membership of Empire Lodge,
No. 08, L O. O. F. This interest
was evident in the meeting which
was held in Odd Fellows hall In this
city Thursday night, when not only
was the local membership out. In
force, but a number of visitors were
present from the lodges of nearby
towns, who came to witness the work
of the First Degree Staff of the local
lodge, in the dramatic exemplifica-
tion of the teachings of this grand
order. Lodges from the following
towns wore represented in the meet-
ing: Melissa, Murphy and Emory.
Three candidates were on hand to
receive this degree, and not only
wore they well pleased and greatly
Impressed by the lessons taught, but
the visitors expressed themselves as
being highly entertained and enlight-
ened.
After the work of the degree staff
had been completed, a number of
splendid talks were made by local
nn mbers and visitors, and the very
best of good fellowship prevailed
throughout the evening.
The year 1 fi 1 2 promises to be the
banner year in the history of Em-
pire lodge, if enthusiastic effort and
unswerving loyalty can accomplish
that end.
The Second degree work will be
given a number of candidates at tho
next meeting, which will be hold on
Thursday night, March 21.
