To The linily Coiirtcr-tliiKOtte and The
Weekly Ileinoerat-day.ctte:
My attention has been called lo an
edltoral In the I'ellna Record by the
editor .1. I,. Wilson, criticising my
friendly criticism In the Courler-Ua-
sette. Friend Wilson calls the readers
attention to the fact that my picture
was In the paper at the head of the
article. For Ills Information I wish
to say that this is not the flrnt time
It has appeared. I will say also that
tin photo and fill was at the expense
of the proprietors of the paper. I
wish also to Inform my friend that I
never have favored the Issuing of
bonds in a smaller distriil than a.
county. When the stigxag district of
McKinney was laid off I was asked
by Dr. Frvvin if our community
vv|idled to be Included. I said I
thmurht so. I would have no vote
bail We been left out. And I wished
lo vote against bonds. I was in favor
of road building but did not think
this the most economical way to do
the work. Friend Wilson comes
square out against receiving bonuses
by the commissioners. I presume he
would content' fiat the county should
purchase the right of way In all
changes. To donate the right of way
as did those near McKinney to get the
road through their land was lo give
a bonus, lie says that to allow such
men to pay on roads to get them
would give them the power to rob the
poor by controlling the route. Now
If all on one route were rich and on
the other route poor this might hnp-
pen. I tun told that the contract for
the 60,000 dollars worth of the bonds
was made with the understanding
that the road leading from McKinney
toward Ccllna was to be the rond
built. Now If the bonds sold had been
Issued by tho citizens along tills road
only, It would have been Just. It is a
fact however, that every cltir.cn of
this McKlnuek district Is bound for
the pavmcnt of these fin.ono dollars
worth of bonds. I ant told that some
road had to be first. Of course, a
mail tloes not need to be very wiser to
know this.
This does not require that all the
bonds sold be spent on that one road.
Asaln I am told that they are
building one road to let the voters
«ee Hie benefit so they will vote
bonds all over the count v. If this
vns the object the main roads leading
out of the city should have had a
mile or so. so people from all com-
munities could see Its advantage. We
are to have one road tending out
northwest from ttie city to a point
between 7 and 8 mites from McKln-
nev. Now If $(10,000 will build eight
miles on one road • It should build
about 12 tulles on si* roads. The ma-
terial or a great part of It Is to be
hauled from McKinney and each mile
added Increases the cost of hauling
Friend Wilson says the thing to guide
the eommls«lon In such public enter-
prises Is "the greatest good to the
i-nvitest number." Well so say T for
tills H imod Democratic doctrine. Will
t'e one road traveled by the people
of a sniiill section of the district bene.
