lines may keep an equal distance so
long as they are perfectly straight, but
let one curve nnd the greater the speed
the more fearful the danger.
Mr. Bailey's defense of our Presi-
dent's veto was timely, but Ills oppo-
sition was not tenable 011 the rights
of property. Itanium A Bailey have a
right to the possession of snakes, lions,
tigers, I'lc., but If they feed those
beasts on our boys and girls Mr.
Halley would destroy them as ijulekly
as possible. And yet Ills expressed po-
sition seems to me to say. let the
breweries and distillers continue to
grow fat al the wreck and ruin of our
boys and girls simply because of a
moneyed Investment. One of the fun-
damental principles In our (lovern-
ment Is that properties which endan-
ger the health and life of a communi-
ty or city may be condemned and de-
stroyed or removed.
Mr. Bailey further says that princi-
ple never changes, but men do. Did
not Mr. Bailey take the stump In 1887
for State-wide prohibition? If it was
right then, lias the principle changed?
Can there he any difference between
the principle of State-wide and na-
tional prohibition? Because men have
large sums of money Invested in the
whiskey traffic does that. Justify the
Nation bartering the lives and souls
of our boys and gl'-ls for a false Idea
of Slate rights or property rights?
