Tbe Mysteries of the Present
A reporter had a pleasant intcrv
with the only genuine Hindoo schol
ever in tbe otty of El Paso.
Column aftor column of the best
newspapers In the world today is being
devoted t' theosophy occult science
and klodrel subjects Blavatska 1
dead but Bassot tbe high priestess
aod believer and Stead tbe instigator
till lire
la Iodia there are societies thous-
ands and thousands of years old from
whmn Blavatska caught her glimpses
of Nirvana.
Now and then one of the mysterious
brotherhood send out to the world
across tbe great waters an adept in
their science.
Hearing so much talk around the
city of Prof. Zlozebar's wonderful
power I conclu Jed to call on tin-
gentleman to hve an interview with
him Prof. Zinzebsr adept of tbe
Hindoo F. F. S. Brotherhood. Madres
presidency S. India. lie is a most
affable and rather good lookiog man
with an eye that to the practical in-
dividual would denote a physical
weakness of that organ but to one of
an imaginative mind tne windows of a
soul which through them sees but
not as we do.
The reporter said: Prof. Zinzebar I
have called upon you this moroing io
search of something interesting for my
psper and having read much of the
powers of tbe adepts in your science
I am sure you cu rive it to me.'
Prof. Zinzebsr smiled and answering
with good-natured pleasantry told tbe
reporter that he cauli give a few ex-
amples of his powers as an adept i'
that was bis desire the Professor told
tnejreporter more of bts past life thsn
Rousseau ever revealed in tbe "ClacsU
Confessions." The reporter was told
that he hsd a peice of paper. Folding
the paper he laid it upon the table.
Then he said what is your favorite
colar."
"Blue" answered the reporter.
"Open the papjr." commanded the
man of mystery. The reporter did so
and found written In plain characters
tbe simple word "Blue."
"I am In your boyhood" said tbe
expert In ocoult science "I find a splen-
did old southern mansion; tbo blinas
are green tk bouse is white: in the
rear is a large barn to which from the
front is a drive way; a sorrel horse is
la tho barn also a buggy. The front
lawn Is covered with maislve oaks aod
a oroicea pitoner in wnicn uowers are
grewloff. besides the broad gravel
walk which leais to the bouse"
Think of ii reader he even went so
far as to describe the pitcber but the
reporter was exultant aod was just
about to say "you have failed" for
the description did not suit his home
when the adept went on "it is the
home of a young lady where at tbe
age of (nineteen years you were a
guest " The reporter's!faber collapsed.
Th adept had carried hlmj back to
pluck a flower from a broken pitcher
he would never forget.
These and many more things some
of such a. personal nature that
although tho reporter was a news-
paper man in every sense of
tbe word he draws a line
at making all of this public.
Sufficient to say that he left Prof. Zio-
sebar with a firm conclusion that fa-
was a wonderful man profeesinir a won-
derful science by tbe aid of which he
reveals strange and mysterious thing-
to the man wbo koos not of the way
he has traveled to reaob this wonder-
ful perfection.

Real Heroes.
Last night two companies of the 20th
nfantry colored troops with their
mcers passed through El Paso for
uahuaca Arizona where they will
go Into garrison duty.
The long train bearing these men
came into tbe station about 8.30 and
there was quite a crowd there to
meet them. The train was composed
of 5 box cars seven tourist sleepers and
one Pullman Car making a long train
of thirteen cars.
The train was delayed here for over
an hour wbilo tbe engines were chang
ed and the cars supplied with ice and
water.
These are tbe same men who went
through tbe entire Cuban campaign.
These companies were in the hottest
of the fight at San Juan hill and it was
at tb's point where they lost so many
of their brave officers among which
was the brave Major Haskell who re-
ceived four w unds from which he
afterwards died.
These troops were the most orderly
lot of soldiers wbich have as yet
passea tnrougn fc-l f aso. J. bey stayed
10 tneir cars ana tbe cars seemed
cleaner than any of the others wbich
nave passed tnrougn. Tbey came
tbrougb from Montauk Point where
they had been in quarantine.
The ideas of the war department as
to tbe efficiency of negro troops bas
been brought to the point that they
are amon the best io the service.
Col. Roosevelt is quoted as saying:
"I have heretofore thought that all a
negro was good for was to hoe cotton
but after seeing those brave fellows of
the 9th cavalry come to the support of
my men Ftoueb Riders) at the fight
around El Caoey I have entirely
changed my mind and I now believe a
braver lot of men never went into a
fight than the ninth cavalry."
A Large Check.
The reporter heari so many compli-
mentary remarks made concerning tbe
largest bank check wbich has been
made in many weeks in El Paso for odo
commodity beiug made by C. H. Law-
rf Dee he called on tbat gentleman and
learned tbe following facts: Mr. Law
rence said: "es I have purchased
cat.u'-d goods to the amount of
JtsSol.:!i. for which I have given
my personal check to tho State
.National Band of El Paso." Tho check
was showed to the reporter and it
proved to bo as represented. The
amount docs not include tbe frelerA on
the shipment. Another note worthy
of mention is the purchase of 8341250
worm 01 eugar Dy Mr. Lawrence. This
1 a treat boost to tbo business record
El Pao and will be appreciated by
uer people.

Tbe K. of L. feast of tbe volunteer
soldiers last night was a grand social
success and reflects g-eat credit on
those wbo had charge of tbe affair.
It was the regular meet in u night of
the order aod no one excepting mem-
bers of the lodge were admitted to the
hall until tbe regular routine business
had been transacted. It was about 9
o'clock when the doors were thrown
open to those who had been invited
and a flood of humanity poured into
the large hall until the plsce wss well
filled. A. J. S. Eylar welcomed the
visitors in well chosen words and was
frequently interrupted by applause.
Tbe Mexican typical orchestra
opened up tbe musical program by
playing tbe "roueh riders7 march"
wbich was well received. Following
this came vocal music which was ap-
plauded to the echo.
Then came the feast which consist
ed of 6ubstantials best suited for tbe
patriotic occasion. To say it was en
joyed would not be doing tbe feast half
justice. Tbe bum aod roar of joyous
bumamty could be beard a block away
froni tbe hall.
Short speeches were made by Dr.
Higffios.A. J. S. Eylar John Sorreneon
and W. W. Bridgers. All were extended
hearty applause.
halting it all in all tbe affair was a
tribute of respect to tbe soldiers boys
that they will not soon forget and an
event that the Knights of labor may
well leel proud of.

Two resideots of tbe tenderloin dis
trict were up before Justice McKle
this morning charged with figbtiog.
They are known along the iine as
Sophia and Gabriel and it appears
from the evidence given in court tbat
Sophia invited Gabriel out to fibt and
tbe latter tied a rock up in a towel and
went aftor Sophia in a vicious manner.
They were arrested and Gabriel was
compelled to put uo $17.90 while tbe
one and costs on Sophia amounted to
$H.40.
