BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS COUNCIL • RADFORD, VA.
THERE ARE NO TV CAMERAS
around, but Scouts can still get
plenty of airtime at Claytor Lake
Aquatics Base, a new lakeside
facility in Pulaski County, Va. The
i reservoir is about a
40-minute drive from Blacksburg,
Va., home of Virginia Tech
University, or a two-hour drive
from The Summit Bechtel Family
National Scout Reserve.
The new buildings, seen
above, serve as the dry-land home
base for visiting units. From there,
the water becomes a Scouting
playground with these activities:
► Wakeboarding, waterskiing,
and motorboating to get the
adrenaline flowing.
► Kayaking or piloting an
Olympic-style rowboat for
when it's time to slow down.
► Scuba certification for Scouts
who prefer underwater fun.
Most of the activities are for
adults and Venturing-age youth,
so make sure your guys and girls
meet the camp's and the BSA's
requirements before planning a
trip. Once you're ready, find more _ :
