SHOWING THE COLORS
The basketball season for the Mineral Wells girls' team began
with a hotly contested game with the hardest opponent in the schedule,
Graford. The Graford veterans were victorious and showed their
superiority by their excellent passing and accurate basket shooting.
The next game, which was played with Palo Pinto, proved a victory
for Mineral Wells by a large score, and the Mineral Wells team had
a chance to display some good points. The two following games with
Milsap and Jacksboro were lost by Mineral Wells, due to the fact
that some of the best players were not able to play. Neither game
was interesting as far as basketball is concerned as the playing on
both sides was very poor.
The real contest began with the elimination games. Palo Pinto
was the first opponent and the two games with this team were easily
won. Graford was next and it was necessary to play three games
in order to determine the winner. The first game was played at
Graford with Mineral Wells the loser by a small margin, as she was
again hampered by the loss of a first team player. The second game
played at Mineral Wells was a victory for the home team, the strong
defense put up by the guards being too much for the visiting team.
The third game was played at Salesvil!e. Both teams were at a dis-
advantage as there was a strong wind which in-'erfered with passing
and good shooting. After a very close struggle Graford came out
victorious.
Those girls of the Mineral Wells team who deserve special men-
tion are Doradene Whatley and Mable Owen, guards; Margaret Reese,
forward, and Wili, McCluskey, center.
