and their assis
tants formed Unit Ministry
Teams at battalion brigade and
division levels throughout III
Corps for an exercise con-
ducted May 9-10.
Jt was a two-day exercise that
included a total of 35 teams.
Both members of the team
were evaluated on common sol-
diers tasks and on combat en-
vironment skills.
-Each team began its unique
experience by assembling at
the 25th Street Chapel for an in-
itial equipment check and safe-
ty briefing. They also insured

that the UMT were equipped
with a tactical vehicle and
M16A1 rifle (with suspressor).
At that point they were given
grid coordinates to the UMTX
Command Post. To gain access
to the CP the chaplain and his
assistant had to use a challenge
and password. After receiving a
scenario of their impending
combat encounter the team
proceeded to the first station.
Once at this station the team
camouflaged themselves and
their equipment. While an in-
fantry patrol accompanied the
team they encountered an
ambush and indirect fire. The
team was expected to take the
appropriate action. At the con-
clusion of the attack aid was
administered to simulated
wounded survivors.
In a combat environment a
chaplain always deploys with
the unit. Their job is minister-
ing to the physical and emo-
tional condition of the casualty.
