Destructive Fire at Waxahaohio.
Special to the Dallas Herald.
Waxahachib, May 1.—A big fire
raged here this morning. The fiie
broke out about 12 o'clock last night
in the hardware house of W. Schus-
ter, on the southwest corner of the
square. The flames spread rapidly,
and by 2 a. m. the entire block on
the south side of the squat e wascon-
smed. The j^re was discovered just
as it was bursting from Shelter's
store, but as the entire south block
was composed ol wooden buildings,
the most vigorous effort could, avail
nothing. This is the third fire
we have had during only the
labt lew months The west
block, composed also of wooden
buildings, was burned about the 1 st
of October. The only Wooden
structure on the east side of the
court houses quare was burned a
short time since. The fire this
morning destroyed the .last of this
class of buildings, except two or
three houses on the noithsfct corner
of the square. These fires may
have been accidental, but we nfe in-
clined to believe that if a handsome
reward was offered for the arrest and
conviction of incendiaries, thty would
be les-s frequent. The exact loss can-
not now be ascertained.

Arrived at Silver Cliff the same day
I left Pueblo, at 9 o'clock p.m., and
spent the remainder ot the night
the Western Hotel. The next
morning I went to Captain Geo. L.
Patrick's office, the superintendent
of the Galveston Mining Company.

the exception of his little daughter,
who has been sick with pneumonia
for seven or eight days, though bet-

the way there is a good many cases
of pneumonia here, and some deaths.
I arrived here Thursday night,
after leaving Denison Monday noon,
and there has not been a day since I
arrived here but that we had more
or less snow. Some nights when I
would lie down it would be clear
and no snow on the streets, and the
next morn! ngit would be one inch
deep. In the' meantime it is snow-
ing nearly all the time on the
mountains, on all sides ot Silver
Cliff. I consider this country
very unhealthy, especially to ' those
who expose themselves. You can't
meet a man who liasnot got a cough
or sore throat, ami complaining move

I have met a good many Texans
here, Among them, Mr. John C.
Montgomery, and Jas. Leonard,

Mr. Purinton will remain here. Mr.

night for Denver. I traveled part of
