Hicks and Chicks
By Margaret Ptelffar
Hicks and Chicks have
been busy again this week.
Tuesday evening was regu-
lar dancing for caller Phil
Lester at the Square Devils
Club in Austin. He and Liz
are always there enjoying
this fine club.
Wednesday evening we
had our regular dance at
Pine Forest with a good
group. Received the report
that all of the bags are in and
on their way to the printer.
They will certainly make a
welcome gift for those
attending the Homecoming
Hoedown dance on Saturday
August 5th.
Thursday evening a group
traveled over the San
Marcos for dancing with the
Wheel and Deals Club.
Everyone going had a great
time and we brought home
their banner. After dancing
everyone congregated at the
Pizza Hut for goodies.

Friday evening a fine
bunch traveled over to
Austin to visit the Flutter
Wheels Club. We brought
home their banner too, so
with all of the banners that
have been collected and
number of people who say
they are coming to the
Hoedown, we will really
have a bunch of people. We
only hope the building holds
the crowd. We do want
everyone to have fun and
remember the affair as one
of the greatest. Our concern
will be for our visitors.
It was certainly great to
have Mo home dancing with
us again. He is now on his
way back to Orlando, but we
will abe thinking of him
when we are completing our
plans for the Hoedown, and
we will miss him a bunch
when dance time arrives.
A group traveled over to
Kerrville for the Southwest
Area Camping Square week
end campout. It was a
beautiful spot on the river
where the dancing was held
and everyone enjoyed it
immensely. Good to see
Johnny Mathis and all of the
other calk'rs from the area.
Johnny is like a grab bag,
you never know what i«
coming up when you get in a
square. Going over were Phil
and Margaret Phillips. Jack.
Marie and Shane Poole, Phil.
Liz and I. Even though Phil.
Liz and I didn't spend the
night, it was worth the trip
even if we did drive home
after the dance. We will
camp next time.
Phil will be goinK to
kingsville on the 28th for a
great dance. Join him.
Wasn't the rains wonder
ful last weekend! They
certainly were welcomed by
the local volunteer firemen.
The men were called back
out to the Boy Scout
Camp- Circle I) area twice
last week, but neither fire
was serious. Friday about
noon a grass forest fire
broke out in the wilderness
area of the Boy Scout Camp.
Leroy Beck, Frank Sawyer,
and Richard Harrison re
sponede to that fire. Then
Saturday afternoon another
report of smoke in the same
area sent Leroy. Frank. Max
Faubus, and Buck Hender
son hark out. This fire was
caused by lighting. I believe,
but was quickly brought
under control with the help
of the Forestry Service
Then men wanted to thank
Hilda Harrison for the cake
and water she furnished
Friday when they returned
from the fire.
I am glad to report that
Buddy Hestilow is recover
ing nicely from the injury he
suffered in the fire July 11
He is able to be up and about
win*' now and it looks as
though he won't have to
have skin grafts, for w hich
we are all thankful.
