Sachse Council Discusses
Landfill Lawsuit
In executive session Mon-
day night, the Sachse City
Council discussed a lawsuit
regarding Sachse's 1986
settlement agreement with
Garland not to oppose
Garland's proposed landfill in
the Pleasant Valley area.
Members also reveiwed a
pending offer to the city to
purchase real estate.
"We have instructed our city
attorney to follow up on the
lawsuit, and we will consider
the real estate offer at our
Jan. 22 meeting," said Mayor
Larry Holden.
During the regular meeting,
Council received a preliminary
traffic safety report and
reviewed the '88-'89 munici-
pal audit report.
City engineer Travis
Roberts, representing Hunter
and Associates, updated
members on the ongoing
traffic safety study that
focuses on three thorough-
fares, Pleasant Valley, Miles
and Merritt, and two resi-
dential streets, Eastview
Drive and Ben Road.
The report will cover ex-
isting traffic volumes, road-
way conditions, traffic
accident analyses, signage
and potentially hazardous
locations. The final report will
be presented at the Council's
Jan. 22 meeting.
Monte Pipes of Cromwell,
Pipes and Associates re-
viewed the city's '88-'89 audit
report, noting the areas in
which accounting procedures
were functioning properly and
those that could be improved.
In other action, the Council
annexed and zoned as
agricultural several tracts of
land totaling 315.99 acres;
passed an ordinance exempt-
ing certain city vehicles form
state identification require-
ments; and granted Ray Drain
60 additional days to comply
with health, safety and zoning
requirements at his wrecking
