Hey Wally, I need an Explorer to
do..."
"Wally, here's a job we oughta get
done. May I have an Explorer?"
Wally is Walbert J. Kalinowski.
He is a technical supervisor at The Aerospace
Corporation, a nonprofit organization that for a
quarter-century has been a respected systems
architect-engineer for the U.S. Air Force. Com-
pany people buttonhole Wally in the halls
because he is a key associate Advisor to
Explorer Post 596, which was organized by
Aerospace in 1973 and has been chartered to the
corporation ever since.
Through Wally and other associates, Aero-
space puts its Explorers to work (unpaid) not just
for their own fun or experience but because their
toil is useful to the company. "They do things
that need to be done, that everybody wants to see
done, but nobody has time to do," explains Julia
D. (Julie) White, a member of the technical staff
who has been the post's Advisor for 10 years.
"Usually the jobs get done faster than anyone
expected. Our professional people are terrific-
ally impressed."
