"FROM THE MEMORIES OF DAWN SCARBROUGH (Cont'd)
"sons, Ted & Dale were born in Marlin. Returning home Thanksgiving, 1942 they
purchased necessities at Mrs. Hardesty's store (now the fruit stand) and settled
down.
"There was a large payroll at the pumping station, workers were deferred from
the Army to keep the oil flowing for the war effort. There was also a large
crew on the railroad, therefore many of the large homes were made into boarding
houses. Security was tight around the pumping station during the war, for fear
of sabotage. Cresson got a telegraph in 1920 and hwy 377 had been improved
around 1929 so Cresson was no longer isolated."
