Notes

Written on the back of the photograph is, "Order in Court! First county court of Garza County, July 1907." Also, a typed note on the back reads, "Order in court! This is a picture of the first county court of Garza County, made in July, 1907. The photo is owned by Tom Wilkes of Lamesa & was presented to B.F. Wilkes, at that time treasurer of Garza County, by W.E. Alexander, surveyor for the county. The "courthouse" in front of which the officials stood was a tent.

Front, left to right in the picture are: County Commissioners S.C. Wilkes, L.F. Barrow, Walter Roy and a Mr. Davis.
Back row: Alexander, Hal Murrey who was county clerk, Bus Boren County Judge, B.F. Wilkes, and Sheriff Oscar Kelly.

B.F. Wilkes was the father of Tom Wilkes, and S.C. Wilkes was an uncle."
