Cowboy Soccer Team
Earns District PlayoffSpot
... Again
The Cowboys enjoyed one of the best seasons in recent memory, finishing j
with a 10-10 record and a third straight appearance in the NAIA District 8 I
playoffs. They officially opened the new Shelton Stadium on September Ists
with a match against NCAA I power Centenary, falling to the Gents by a 4-1
score. HSU also faced NCAA members SMU and Texas A&M along with NAIA
power Midwestern State.
HSU reeled off five straight wins, including back-to-back home victories over
Southwestern University and College of the Southwest by identical 8-0 scores,
to surge into the playoffs. The Pokes of Coach Stan Levrets gave the nationally
ranked team all they could handle for much of the match in the first round of
the district tournament before the Indians pulled away in the second half for the f
win.
Junior midfielder Casey McLean led the team with 13 goals while freshman forward
added 12 goals. Sophomore midfielder Lalo Munoz also chipped in 11 goals.
Senior midfielder Cory Foster was named to the NAIA All-District 8 team for the
second consecutive season.A _
