The wedding took place in the
rectory of St. Vincent De Paul
Church on the evening of April lti
with Father J. D. Connolly per-
forming the ceremony.
The bride chose for her wedding
gown a beautiful sheer white after-
noon dress with which she wore
small hat adorned with lilies-of-
the-valley. She carried a prayer
book covered with a white orchid.
Miss Jean Schmidt, sister of the
bride, was her only attendant, and
wore an aqua Jersey gown with a
hat of pink horsehair braid. Her
corsage of pink sweetheart roses
completed the ensemble. Attend-
ing Mr. Bryant as best man was
Roger L. Culberson.
The groom was recently given an
honorable discharge from the Army
after having served overseas. After
a brief wedding trip, the couple
will make their home here.

Last Phase Of
Drainage Job
To Start Soon
Installation of the first unit of
the Kir by Drive storm sewer is now
90 per cent completed, and bids for
the second and last unit will be
taken in the near future, according
to the Engineering Department of
the City of Houston. While the sec-
ond section will not be completed
for several months, engineers be-
lieve that relief from accumulation
of storm waters will be noticeable
as soon as work is started on the
second unit.
A 72-inch sewer on Kirby Drive
from Brays Bayou to Bellaire com-
prises the first unit. Workmen
started at the bayou and are now
nearing Bellaire Boulevard. It is
hoped that contracts may be let on
the second unit before work on the
first section is completed so that
work may be continuous. The sec-
ond unit will extend from Bellaire
to University Boulevard with one
branch on Kirby Drive and another
on Greenbriar.
A large section from University
Boulevard south and bounded on
the west by Annapolis and reach-
ing into the Roberts School area
will be served by this storm sewer.
Some relief will also be felt north
of University due to the fact that
overloaded sewer lines through
"The Village" will be relieved.
The Kirby Drive storm sewer is
part of a comprehensive drainage
project undertaken jointly by West
University Place, Harris County
and Houston. The Kirby Drive
sewer, Houston's portion of the
project, will complete the drainage
plan and bring the total cost of the
program to $750,000.
