HER RE$OURtE$
Mandy Lynn Meister and HRM
our years ago, Nelson Hall Room 245 housed two young women.
One of them was Mandy Lynn Meister, human resource management
major from Scottsdale, Ariz.
Now that freshman is a graduating senior ready to start a new life.
Meister is the third member of her family to graduate from ACU.
Her older brother Brent, class of '98, and sister Angie Stewart, class
of '99, preceded her. Both older siblings encouraged her to go to
ACU.
\ Meister came from a big high school and was looking for a
small college.
"My first priority was to go to a small college," Meister
said. "Second priority was a private Christian school."
Meister had never heard of ACU until her brother attended.
When she visited him on campus, she said she knew it was
were she wanted to go.
"There was no pressure from my family to attend
she ACU. In fact, my dad was pushing for another school,"
she said, laughing.
Meister applied only to ACU and did so during preregistration.
This allowed her to have plenty of time to
know if she would be accepted. Meister came in as a history
major but found she did not want to continue in the
program.
"It could be a hobby but not a profession," she said.
One day in her Introduction to Business class, Dr.
Malcolm Coco, director of internships for the College of
Business Administration, talked about the human resource
management, or HRM, program. Everything he
said that day interested her enough to switch majors from
history to HRM, she said.
"I enjoy being in the HRM program; all the faculty is
really nice," she said. "They invite you over to their house
and have a wonderful open-door policy."
After Meister graduates from ACU, she said she plans to go
back to Phoenix and search for a job. After a year of working,
she then wants to go to Arizona State University to get her master's
degree in business administration. She is preparing to take
the Graduate Management Admission Test, or GMAT, in
September and start the application process.
Although graduation is still a month away, Meister has been
preparing for finding a job since November.
"I've placed my resume on the Internet and have had several interviews,"
she said. "Unfortunately because of the economy, many places are
telling me to call them after I graduate."
While at ACU, Meister has been active in activities like Sing Song, Alpha
Kai Omega, Welcome Week and tutoring children.
"The best thing about being here at ACU is all the fun i
times I have hanging out with friends," she said.
