Announced
/;
David Vickers, contracting firm
of Sweetwater, was awarded the
contract to lay new water mains
for the City Water Works last Fri-
day, December 13. The contract
was for $28,282, less than the city
estimated when the bond election
was held a few weeks ago.
Work on securing this project
was begun two years ago when the
old water lines started giving away
and it was found that new mains
would cut the insurance rate which
is now being paid. At the present
time, the City of Albany is being
penalized $5500 per year for in-
adequate water distribution sys-
tem. When thi.s new work is com-
pleted, $3000 will be cut off this
$5500 and the money saved over a
period of ten years will more than
cover the cost of laying the lines.
The saving in insurance will
amount to the total expenditure of
the project, doing away with the
following assessments against our
insurance rate:
Water Mains:
a. Supply main not in
duplicate $ 02
b. Supply main defi-
cient in size 05
c. 100 percent of mains
less than 8 inch in
size in mercantile
district 10
d. 73 percent of mains
deficient in size in
residence sections .07
e. Not wholly standard

cantile district .02
