Local winch truck operators hook up to a collapsed trailer bearing a large mill machine
that partially blocked the Hwy.180/Hwy.283 intersection for-12 hours Sunday night
and during the day on Monday. The truck driver, who was on his way to Laredo, was
attempting to make a left turn toward Baird when the trailer broke under the weight
of the equipment. For the most part, traffic flow continued in one lane in each direction
while the equipment was off-loaded to another trailer and the roadway was cleared.

Annual pig sale set Sunday
The Shackelford County
Youth Benefit Show Pig Sale
will be held on Sunday, Septem-
ber 17 at the County Show Barn
just north of the city limits on
Hwy. 283.
According to Rocky Vinson,
Shackelford County Extension
Agent, a show will start around
9:00 a.m. to select breed cham-
pions and determine the sale
order.
The sale itself will begin at
2:00 p.m., with Ken Jones coor-
dinating the event.
Approximately 100 pigs from
Texas and Iowa are consigned to
the sale. Kenneth Gregg of
Lockney will serve as auction-
eer.
This is the fourth year for the
Shackelford County Youth and
Livestock Show Association to
conduct the sale, although there
has been a club pig sale in Al-
bany for a number of years.
Proceeds from the concession
stand and consignment fees will
benefit the association, and the
sale has turned out to be the
major fundraiser for the asso-
ciation, according to Vinson.
Volunteers are needed to help
with the event, said the county
agent, especially the 4-H and
FFA members who benefit from
the sale. "We need help keeping
books, moving animals around
and in the concession stand," he
said.
Contact Debra Boyett, who is
in charge of the concessions, to
help with the food and food sales,
and Ken Jones, Vinson or asso-
ciation president Mike Parsons
to assist with other aspects of
the sale.
Pig tag orders due Sept. 20
All 4-H and FFA members
who plan to exhibit pigs in any
major livestock show including
Fort Worth, San Antonio, San
Angelo, Houston or Austin must
order validation tags.
To order tags, contact County
Extension Agent Rocky Vinson
or ag science teachers Chris
Beard or Grant Robinson.
Orders must be received on or
before September 20.
The cost of each tag is $7.
Sales draw hundreds of shoppers
Almost 30 garage sale sites
were included in the Albany
Chamber of Commerce's 2006
Community-Wide Garage Sale
held last Saturday, September
9, according to Chamber volun-
teer Jeanine Hill.
There were 22 signed up at
press time last week, but an-
other six families registered in
the last couple days before the
deadline, said Hill. The final
count on Saturday was 28 sepa-
rate sites, well below last year's
36 sales, but still a good num-
ber.
The annual garage sales draw
both casual and dedicated bar-
gain hunters from the commu-
nity and many surrounding
towns. Hill said that she handed
out over 200 maps Saturday
morning.
"The parking lot was full at
7:30 a.m.," said Hill. "Jess
Phillips helped me and we were
busyuntil 10:00 a.m. Therewere
a lot of people around town."
"It was a beautiful day with
great weather, and the people
who came by to pick up a map
were all ready to shop," Hill con-

THANKS EVERYBODY!
Well.. .after three long, hot months of cleaning out and remodeling the old
Willett house, I am happy to announce we are officially "moved in." Being
known for my excellent timing (you know...being pregnant while moving
out, clearing out & remodeling, all in the heat of the summer!), I managed
to catch a nasty flu bug the day before our move-in party! I would like to
extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who came out last Saturday to get
us moved in - John Ross & Ramona Reames, Wendell, Dianna & Wyatt
Morgan, Mark, Karen & Kenli Viertel, Donnie, Melinda & Jordan Lucas, Jessica
Stapp, Bruce, Lillian & Courtney Wheeler, Teresa Cauble, Erica, Tony & Lute
Wheeler & Arthur & Betty Viertel. Another thanks goes out to Lillian Wheeler
for providing breakfast burritos & 0.). for everyone and to the Volunteer Fire
Dept. for the hamburgers and fries.
Ace & I would especially like to thank our parents for being there for us
throughout this long process. For all of your gas money and weekends spent
helping us move out of Lubbock, for helping us move everything out for
remodeling, for helping with every garage sale and getting us settled into our
new home, I want to thank my mom & dad, Wendell & Dianne Morgan for
their undying support.
To John Ross & Ramona, all I can say is I couldn't have asked for better in-
laws, and I am blessed beyond belief to be part of such a wonderful family.
Not only did you open up your hearts & home to us when we unexpectedly
moved in with you, but you volunteered countless hours helping us hammer,
scrape & paint. Thanks for helping to make our house a home.
Thankyou, Josh, for coming out that week to help Ace tear out the paneling
and walls, hanging sheet rock and building the new walls. I appreciate your
time away from your family.
Last but not least, I'd like to thank everyone who helped watch over and
entertain Michaela during our transition. Sandra & Alexis Munden, thank you
for having her over to play & helping her meet new friends. Judy Patterson
and Jennifer Bowman, thanks for all the playdates...trading kids kept every-
one well entertained! To Lillian Wheeler, who always opened her home (pool
& kitchen) to all the kids, thanks for being her home away from home! I'd also
like to thank my neighbor Karen Brooks and her family for always opening
their doors for Michaela to come over and play, as well as helping us out with
our cleaning crisis. We appreciate you all. Teresa Cauble, thanks for helping
me paint & clean and for your work on the baby shower, for keeping us all
laughing. You are a great friend! Travis Bowsher, thanks for all of your
gardening help. We enjoyed it until the first water bill arrived! Lastly, I would
like to thank Pops & Bearcat (John & Mae Reames) for being the kind of
grandparents every kid would love to have. It's priceless knowing your child
has caring grandparents, not only looking out for your child's safety, but giving
her an open & loving home to enjoy. Bearcat, thanks for being Michaela's
special playmate, and John, thanks for relinquishing your remote control!
Well, it took Ace three years to drag me here, but I have to say, you folks
know how to roll out the welcome mat. It's safe to say it would take a lot
longer to drag me away! Thankyou Albany for your hospitality.../ can't think
of a better place to call home. Lori Reames (and Ace & Michaela)
