_ Hemphill Graduate Honor Award
Dr. and Mrs. Lee Hemphill have
endowed an award to be presented at
either the spring or summer commencement
to a candidate for the master's
degree. The recipient will be selected by
the Graduate Council from among those
recommended by members of the graduate
faculty.
W. B. Irvin Education Award
A cash award of up to $1,000 will be
made annually at commencement to two
outstanding teacher education graduates.
The recipient of the award will be selected
by the faculty of the Irvin School of Education.
Criteria for selection includes intent to
teach, scholarship, attitude, and personality
traits essential to quality teaching. The
student must have completed his/her professional
education preparation at HardinSimmons
University.
The Julius Nelson Olsen Medal
The Julius Nelson Olsen Medal was
established by Dr. and Mrs. Julius Olsen
- in 1914 in memory of their son, Julius Nelson
Olsen, and perpetuated through a
bequest by Dean Julius Olsen, who was
Professor of Physics at Hardin-Simmons
University from 1902-1942 and Dean of
the University during much of that time.
This medal is awarded annually at spring
- commencement to the graduate who has
the highest grade average, has exemplified
the highest scholarly achievement,
and has completed at least 90 semester
hours of residence credit at Hardin-Simmons
University.
The Winnie K. and D. M. Wiggins
Medal
The Winnie K. and D. M. Wiggins medal
is awarded to the senior student graduating at the close of the summer session for
academic excellence throughout his
entire college career. The medal will go to
one who has spent three or more years in
residence and who has excelled in character,
personal development, and academic
achievement.
