The Bachelor of Science degree major
must include a total of nine courses and
the Bachelor of Arts degree major must
include a total of eight courses. The baccalaureate
programs require one hour of
biology seminar. For other requirements

Supporting subjects required for all
biology majors are Chemistry 1410, 1411;
Physics 1410, 1411; and Mathematics
1310, 1311.

Secondary Education
First Teaching Field: Biology
Degree: Bachelor of Education
Required Courses: 30-32 hours consisting
of 1410, 1411, 3410, 3411, and four additional
courses, two of which must be

Departmental Requirements: The student
must offer Mathematics 1310 and Physical
Science 1401 or Chemistry 1410, 1411 in
partial satisfaction of the degree core
requirement in mathematics and natural
science.

Courses in Biology (BIOL)
1401 Life Science (4-3-2)
A study of the fundamental concepts of biology
with special application to man. This is a onesemester
course designed to serve as an
option to satisfy the core requirement in natural
science.1410 General Biology (4-3-3)
Basic concepts of both the plant and animal
kingdoms. Special emphasis is given to structure,
function and interrelationships of
organisms.
1411 General Biology (4-3-3)
Basic concepts continued.
Prerequisite: 1410 or 1401.
2199, 2299, 2399, 2499 Special Topics
Special course designed to serve the general
interest student. May be repeated for credit
when topic varies. Will not count toward a major
or minor in biology.
2305 Human Ecology (3-3-0)
Emphasis will be placed on man and the
environmental problems which confront him.
Physical, biotic, and social factors will be considered.
Will not count toward a major or minor
in biology.
2402 Human Anatomy and Physiology I
(4-3-2)
Structures and function of the human body.
Systems covered will include muscular, skeletal
and nervous. This first course will introduce
materials in histology, cytology, and body
chemistry.
2403 Human Anatomy and Physiology II
(4-3-2)
Structures and functions of the human body.
Systems covered will include circulatory, digestive,
urinary, reproductive, and endocrine.
Prerequisite: BIOL 2402.
3199, 3299, 3399 Special Problems
Field or laboratory studies of biological material.
Emphasis is to be placed in the area of
research of the professor teaching the course.
Prerequisite: One to three years of biology
(depending on level for which credit is given) or
permission of department. May be repeated for
credit when topic varies.
3307 Nutrition (3-3-0)
A study of the biochemical role of the various
food substances essential to good nutrition.
Practical experience will be provided in planning
diets for persons of different ages and different
needs.
Prerequisite: CHEM 1410, 1411 and BIOL
2402, 2403 or consent of instructor.
3312 Statistical Methods (3-3-0)
(See MATH 3312 for description.)
3410 General Ecology (4-3-4)
Relationships of animals and plants to each
other and to their environments.
Prerequisite: 8 hours of biology.
