B: Dr. J. H. Irby is the proprietor of a fine baby girl. The News wishes the young miss a long

July 24, 1886
M: Squire Dickson of Clayton, Georgia was awaken just after midnight and asked to marry a
waiting couple. Jeptha Littleton aged 82 and Mrs. Ruthey Ann Thompson aged 75 had eloped
from their children. They were accommodated. (p.1, c.6)
D: M. Brooks alias W. H. Lenox Maxwell who was convicted of murdering Charles Arthur
Preller was sentenced on the 14th in St. Lewis to be hanged on August 27th. (p.2, c. 1)
D: Died last Sunday evening at 1:15 o'clock, Mrs. Maud W., wife of R. M. Richardson in the
20th year of her age, after a lingering illness of about four weeks. Her mortal remains lie in the
Old Cemetery. (p.3, c.2)
D: District Court - Adelia Baker vs. W. D. Baker - suit was abated by reason of the death of the -

D: Graham, Tex. July 21st - Today Sheriff Wallace arrested A. R. Hoover 28 yrs. old, 170 lbs,
on suspicion of being the murderer of Editor J. M. Truitt in Shelby Co. (p.2, c.3)
D: The Oldest Yet - Baltimore, Md. July 27th, the certificate of death of William Scott (colored)
was filed at the office of health department giving the deceased at being 153 years old. (p.2, c.3)
D: Shreveport, La. July 28th - yesterday, Miss Lucy V. Yancey, daughter of Mr. Daniel Yancey
suicided having been outraged some five months ago by a Colored servant Ben Ford and finding
she was pregnant. (p.2, c.3)
D: Miss Ella Shumate died at her mother's residence near New Prospect on the 12th instant.

D: Mrs. Hardie, wife of Elder J. E. Hardie of this city, died on last Tuesday morning. Note: Old
City Cemetery shows this to be Susan F. E. Hogan wife of Elder J. E. Hardie (April 15, 1823 - ,

D: Last Saturday Night - Mr. W. W. Grubbs living near Woods hearing something in the hen's
roost, went out to turn loose his dog. The dog caught him in his bowels and literally tore his
entrails out. He is not expected to live. (p.3, c.2)
D: Died July 18, 1886 Maud, aged 19 years, wife of Mr. Randolph Richardson and daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Trammell. A loving wife, daughter and mother. (p.3, c.5)-34-
