TULIA SWISHER COUNTY TEXAS JANUARY 31 1919
SWISHEB COUNTYS SOLDIERS
MEMORIAL FOR OUR BOYS
When tho armlBtico was signed on
Novombor 11 1018 tho American pcoplo
had a great day of jubilation fho y
hnd n right to rejolco as all nations had
n right to rojoica On that day speeches
wCro mndo throughout tho nation
nud suggestions that wo build monu
inonts on memorials to tho boys who
had gono forth to frco tho world from
tho hand of oppression as represented
by Autocracy and Militarism But wo
have ceased to speak much if at all
abont this memorial that wo wero going
to build in Swisher County for our boys
If over nt all now is tho Uino for us to
mako a moVa for n suitable Memorial
to our loyal and patriotic sons What
kind of n memorial shall wo build
Shall we erect on tho comthouso squnro
n tall granite monument Soaring tho
hnmes of the soldiers from Swisher
County f Such n monument might np
peal to some people and that kind of
monument would be better by far than
no monument nt all I am for the orcc
tion of a memorlnl for our noble sons
hut a mnrblo shaft as a memorial docs
not strike mo ns being what wo want
Having been thinking nbout this mat
tor for somo time I have n suggestion
to mako to tho citizens of Swishor
County with regard to tho Momorlal
Let us build n memorial nnd while nt
It let us mnke it one that will do good
as woll as oommemorao our boys
My suggestion is this Wo need
now High School Building for our coun
ty Tho building we hnvo In Tulin is
wholly Inadequate fen tho work that
must be dono Our boys and girls are
our best and most vnlupblo asset nnd
no ought to provide for them tho best
educational advantages possible That
old building can be remodeled by removing
the third story end mnking nd
ditions to the other two stories pro
iding for heat and sanitation for the
convenience nnd comfort of the pupils
and thus mako a good grado school
building for tho Tulia Public Schools
Then go to a now loeaUoivanli build a

bo known ns Victory Jligh School of
Swisher County Wo could thus per
petuate the memory of our boys and at
tho saino time be giving good edm n
tinnnl advantages to the succeeding
generations of children We can put
our Liberty Bonds and Savings Stamps
into such a memorial and ask tho con
tributiou of funds from people nil over
the county who would be glad to help
In tlio building of such a memorial to
our bravo and noble sons
Let us take up this matter before
the people lose interest in it nnd push
It to completion ns rapidly as possible
