Every friend of Ralph Yarborough
including the editors
on our exchange list who supported
Yarborough is asked
to read carefully the final section
of this column
ON AN Elsenhower victory
ODDS
tory have backed down from
5 to 1 to 3 to 2 according to the
betting on Wall Street and Broadway
According to reports the Republicans
seem to be bogged down
in a bed of complacency
James Finnegan the Democratic
campaign manager is privately
astonished at the sudden outpouring
of funds harmony talk and grassroots
support that has developed for
the StevensonKefauver ticket
Three out of every five independent
voters disclose to pollsters that
they like Ike dislike and mistrust
Nixon will either stay home or
vote Democratic
The principal slogan Stick with
Ike has already begun to backfire
A New York adman has converted
it to Stick With Ike and Get Stuck
With Dick
TOWN TOPICS
THIS IS written Price Daniel
AS
still isnt sure which ticket
hes going to support in November
Two things we know
1 Regardless of what he says the
prestige and influence he will add
to the national Democratic ticket
will be practically nil
2 Last April he told Ernest Joiner
of the Ralls Banner in the presence
of 15 people that he categorically
would NOT support Adlal Stevenson
for President
Personally we arent concerned
with what Daniel does with his vote
on Nov G His support of or opposition
to Adlal Stevenson wont change
a half dozen votes

The Country Editor Speaks
We never heard of this character
called L A Duewall of LaGrange
until about a year ago when he asked
to exchange papers with us In
fact we never heard of LaGrange
until then And we dont feel any
richer intellectually since making
either discovery
What he wanted with a Democratic
paper weve yet to discover
Hes the type that seldom comes
out and admits whats eating on
him Instead he refers to people in
such general terms that no one
knows at whom he is driving A generation
ago they accused such a
character of having a cockle burr
under his tail
Not long ago he took a crack at
us which carried the secondary implication
that we lived in an area
which had stolen cotton acreage
from East Texas
We presume this burgh is in East
Texas however were not sufficiently
interested to look it up It may be
a suburb of Mansfield Duewall probably
is chairman of the Citizens
Council

DEMOCRATS of Texas
WE
have had to take the backseat
now for several years We could
have licked the Shivercrats any day
in the week but the Shivercrats
plus 300000 Republicans plus their
big money have been a little too
much for us
Weve had our conventions stolen
a la Amarillo 1952 weve had high
treason in our command weve had
turncoats within our ranks and we
have suffered infiltration of our
ranks by admitted Republicans who
can vote a Democratic ballot on
which is the pledge I am a Democrat
and pledge myself without
batting an eye
Its a miracle we still exist as an
organization A military organization
subjected to such conduct would
have capitulated long ago
Three weeks ago we demonstrated
our strength by coming within
3300 votes of defeating the combined
forces of the Texas Republican
party the Texas Shivercratic party
plus those Texas Democrats who
preferred Price Daniel to Ralph Yarborough
for personal reasons
Our strength was applauded from
coast to coast We 700000 Texas
Democrats drew the admiration and
respect of outofstate observers who
sati that this tremendous Democratic
victory Indicated Texas would
go Democratic in November beyond
question
town topics
THIS ASS from LaGrange
YET
has the audacity to say that
we Democrats cant seem to get
it through our heads that Ralphy
Boy was darn lucky to get as many
votes as he did and still luckier that
the Daniel voters didnt show up at
the polls
TOWN TOPICS
ISNT the first time we have
THIS
heard the Shivercrats explain
away the narrow margin by
contending that the Daniel supporters
didnt vote The Lockney editor
went so far as to say he was sure
all the Yarborough supporters voted
but that the Daniel supporters were
on vacation and were over confident
and so forth
Weve heard simple alibis come
from Monday morning quarterbacks
but never one so simple as this
Perhaps there were overconfident
Daniel supporters but for every one
of them there were two Yarborough
supporters who didnt vote because
as they would say he hasnt got 0
chance
In our own precinct we counted
a long list of persons who voted enthusiastically
for Yarborough July

TULIA Swlshor County TEXAS THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 13 1956
On the other side of the ledger
the Hornets met defeat In a hard
fought battle with the Cyclones of
Memphis Friday night Memphis
speed In the backfield was perhaps
the contributing factor for the G0
victory they enjoyed
Those making the game Friday
night saw some new and promising
faces on the Hornet team Although
the Hornets are considered inexperienced
they did turn in a good performance
Tulia fans enjoyed seeing
some good tackling on the part of
the Hornets although often these
tackles were made too far beyond
the line of scrimmage
The Hornet Booster club selected
Leon Vandergriff as the outstanding
line man and Billy Chandler as the
back turning in the best performance
These selections by the club
will be made each week and new
judges are selected for each game
One new face that turned in a good
account in the line was Keith White
Wayne Martin along with the 45
boys on the squad would like to sec
a good crowd from Tulia at Friday
nights game Although they did
lose by a slim margin they will be
in there fighting for a victory

Milo Must Be Free
Of Cotton Seed
To Avoid Penalty
Tulia grain men have warned of
the danger of permitting cotton seed
to get mixed with milo If the practice
isnt stopped the result will be
loss in income to the farmer
For several years California has
been the best or one of the best
markets for milo When milo is shipped
into California it is inspected
for cotton seed If any is found it
is ordered out of the state and has
to be rccleaned and fumigated which
entails prohibitive expense
Regardless where milo is delivered
it is likely to terminate in CaliforniaFarmers can remedy the situation
by taking care that no cotton seed
gets mixed with milo All cotton
trucks and trailers should first be
swept before they are used for milo
