1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas joins the
3 citizens of Pearsall in mourning the loss of John Byron Strait, Sr.,
4 who died June 4, 2013, at the age of 91; and
5 WHEREAS, John Strait was raised in Pearsall and grew up to
6 become a mathematics teacher and a farmer and rancher; he owned a
7 2,000-acre ranch outside of the town of Big Wells, Texas; and
8 WHEREAS, He was dedicated to his career as a teacher and to
9 his work on his ranch, and he devoted much of his time to raising his
10 sons, George Strait, the country musician, and Buddy Strait; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Strait was a devout Christian who was noted for
12 his work ethic and high standards; he was a man of integrity and
13 strength who gave willingly of his time and energy to help others;
14 and
15 WHEREAS, He was respected for his accomplishments, and his
16 courageous attitude toward life was inspirational to all who knew
17 him; John Strait will long be remembered with affection and
18 appreciation by his family and his friends; now, therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas,
20 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
21 bereaved family of John Byron Strait, Sr.: his wife, Anna; his son
22 and daughter-in-law, George Strait and Norma; his daughter and
23 son-in-law, Pency Edel and Lea; his daughter-in-law, Denise Strait;
24 and his four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and, be it
