Gillespie County schools,
from top: The Crabapple
School, built in 1882, is
part of a complex that
includes a frame pavilion,
an earlier schoolhouse
that was also a teacherage,
a Lutheran church,
barbecue pits, and a
baseball field.
Pecan Creek: The original
Pecan Creek school was
built from a house moved
in 1916. Twenty years
later the school expanded
to include a large stage
and pavilion (right), with
the whole building
sheathed in pressed
metal with a faux brick
pattern.
Cherry Creek pavilion. In
1936 Cherry Spring residents
built a 32 by 60 foot
enclosed pavilion for
plays and activities, as
well as for a second
classroom. The original
canvas stage curtain still
hangs in place.
