TB INCREASING AMONG CURLS
Austin Toxns February vlO Despite
tho very pronounced docllne in tho nior
lallty from tuberculosis which has
taken place during tho last decade tho
< disease is actually increasing among
girls between tho ages of fifteen and
twenty yoara
1 This is shown clearly by figures covering
tho ten year period 1911 to 1020
Adolescent girls contituto tho only
group in which the tuberculosis death
rate has not declined
For the period 1911 to HUG tho death
rate was U45 in HUH 145S and in
1920 1515 an increase of tivo percent
Tho fact thnt all other groups
show a decrease for the same length
of time makes this increaso very important
During the same period
that tho tuberculosis death rate for
adolescent girls was iuoroaMiig live per
I cent tho death rate among adolescent
white buvs was decreasing twenty fie
per cent Tor some time past students
of tuberculosis have been giving tiiis
question considerable thought but as
yet no satisfactory answer has be on obtainedOne way in which this problem cau
bo reduced is by periodic examination
so that the disease may be located in its
early stages and treatment given in
tiiuo so that one afflicted will have nn
even chance of recovery sayj the
