COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
342.-The Curriculum in Christian Education. A study of
the curriculum for the Sunday Bible school, young peoples' meetings,
and the Week-Day Church School. The principles of curriculum
are mastered and practice in making courses of study for
the different groups is given. A valuable course for those who
are interested in assisting the local congregation in developing
an efficient program of Christian education.
CHURCH HISTORY
273.-The Church of the Early Centuries. A rapid survey
of the soil in which Christianity was planted by the first century
Christians. The course deals primarily with a detailed study of
the movements, doctrines, and practices from the accession of
Trajan to the Fourth General Council. Fall quarter.
283.--The Latin Church of the Middle Ages. Beginning
with the barbarian invasion the course traces the growth of the
Papacy through the rise and extension of the evils and abuses
that resulted in the Reformation. Some attention is given to the
Greek and Eastern Churches. Winter quarter.
293.-The Reformation. Careful study of the German
Reformation is made with minor consideration of the Reformation's
influence beyond the borders of Germany and in years
subsequent to Luther. Spring quarter.
BIBLE GEOGRAPHY
212.-Geography of Bible Lands. This course emphasizes
the topography, the political divisions, the economic geography,
the industries, and the social conditions in Bible times. It shows
the relation of the physical features of the Holy Land to man
and his activities. Scripture narrative is thus more intelligible
and real. This course is based on McGarvey's Lands of the Bible.
222.-Oriental Mission Field. This is a problem course of
the condition of the different people of Asia, Africa, and Europe,
a knowledge of which would be of vital importance to mission
workers. Some of the topics studied are religious customs, laws,
habits and morals.
232.-Western Hemisphere Missions. This course emphasizes
the things that a missionary should know when he goes into any
country of Latin-America, so that he may adapt himself to the
people, and that will aid him to preach the Gospel there more
effectively.51
