upon an average of B on work then in progress. 4. Exemption from
class attendance during the last three days of Senior Week (the week
preceding Senior Sunday). If the class wishes, it may have an outing
or picnic on the two days mentioned in No. 4, provided it is
strictly a class affair. 5. To have charge of and conduct all chapel
exercises during the week before Senior Sunday which is the Sunday
before Commencement Sunday.
The privileges enumerated above extend only to seniors. If a
senior wishes to invite an under-classman to share in any senior
privilege, said under-classman must first secure permission from the
dean before such privilege may be exercised.
Students must apply for senior privileges.
CERTIFICATES
The matter of certificates that qualify to teach in the public
schools of Texas is entirely controlled by state legislation. The
present laws of Texas provide for the certification of students of
Abilene Christian College along with those of other similar institutions
on -;he following terms:
Age Requirenzent.-An applicant to be eligible for any certificate
must be at least eighteen years of age at the time the certificate is to
be issued.
Six Year Elementary.-Upon completion of sixty semester hours
of college work, including government 320 or government 325 and 326
and twelve semester hours in education, an elementary certificate valid
for six years may be issued. This certificate becomes permanent after
five years of successful teaching.
Four Year High School.-Upon completion of sixty semester
hours of college work, including government 320 or government 325
and 326 and twelve semester hours in education, six of which must
bear upon high school teaching, a high school certificate valid for four
years may be issued.
Six Year High School.-Upon completion of ninety semester hours
of college work, including government 320 or government 325 and 326
and eighteen semester hours in education, six of which must bear upon
high school teaching, and three of which must be in practice teaching
a high school certificate valid for six years may be issued.
Permanent High School.-Upon completion of four years of college
work leading to a degree, provided that this work includes government
320 or government 325 and 326, twenty-four semester hours
in education, six of which shall bear on high school teaching and six of
which shall consist of the study of methods, observation of methods
and practice teaching, one-third of which must bear on high school
teaching, a permanent high school certificate may be issued.
Any person holding a degree and who has not had twenty-four
semester hours in education, but who has completed twelve semester
hours in education, six of which bear upon high school teaching, and
who has had three years (twenty-seven months) of successful teaching
experience subsequent to taking the degree, shall be entitled to
receive from the State Department of Education a permanent high
school certificate, valid anywhere in the state.40
