325.-Integral Calculus. This will be a study of the
methods and formulae of integration as a summation application
of problems in Physics and Geometry. Text: Townsend
and Goodenough.
335.-Analytical Geometry. This course will be devoted
to the study of typical curves and equations. Conic sections
and higher plane curves will be treated thoroughly. Prerequisite,
Mathematics 165. Text: Smith and Gale.
345.-Analytical Geometry. This course is a continuation
of Mathematics 335. Solid analytic geometry will be stressed
in this course. Text: Smith and Gale.
355.-Teachers' Course. This is a course dealing with the
problems and methods of teaching mathematics in the elementary
and secondary schools. Students who major in Mathematics
will be required to take this course.
VII. DEPARTMENT OF MODERN LANGUAGES.
FRENCH.
115.-Beginners' Course. Reading, Conversation, grammar.
Correct pronounciation is insisted upon from the first.
Vocabulary, idioms, and grammatical principles are fixed in
memory by extensive use of French conversation, and thus a
living language is produced, not a mere book-language. In
the first year the emphasis is placed on the natural language
of life and the more formal productions of literature are deferred
to the following years. To this end short stories, novels,
and plays that best portray French life, customs, and ideals
are read. During the year the collateral reading of at least
one English book on French life, customs, and ideals will be
required.
125.-Continuation of 115.
135.-Continuation of 125. Courses 115 and 125 will not
be credited toward a degree unless 135 is completed.
215.-French masterpieces. Study of the best French
drama, novels, poetry. Composition and oral reproduction in
French. Conducted largely in French.
