The importance of teaching God's Word to t le rising' genIlralionl
cannot be overestimated. If people ever believe that Je>S
of Nazareith is tlhe Christ, tire Son of the living God, tlhe
lutust be taught the Bible. Tlie Holy Spilit tells us in Jno. 20t0-:'l1:

Realizing tle importance of teaching God's word to t the youIn
people of their time, David Lipscomb and J. A. Harding began a
.movement ill Nashville, T'en nessee, inll 191, whlichl re>nlted in tll

Among those who were thus inspired was A. . B Barret of
Tennessee. In tlie winter and spring of 1906 lie vwas il this section
of the state ireachingi thle importance of Christian education. IIe
enlisted tlhe interest and sympathy of a few\, and tlie result was
1Hle beginning of Abilene Chris<ian College. The schooll opened
ill September, 1906, in a small brick building witl only twentyfive
)pupils. During thie yeart tlhe enrollment reached seventy-five.
The next year tlle faculty and equipment xere made better aid
tlie enrollment increased.
From 1908 to 1912 the school had a very checkered career.
Tlere were frequent changes in tlie presidency: from A. 1B. Barret
to 11. L. Darden, tlen to R. L. Whiteside, then to J. F. Cox, then tC)
J. P. Sewell. Because of lack of interest in Clristian education.
and Iecause of difficult financial conditions thle school made little
real 1prog'ess till tlhe fall of 1912.
