SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS
151, 152.-Third Year Voice.
Scales in extended range. Exercises on thirds, and scales including
groups of three and four notes on each tone of the scale. Staccato exercises
for soprano. Chromatic scales for all voices. One recitative
and aria. Exercises with octaves, piano and forte. Prolonged messa di
voce. A minimum of fifteen standard songs. The student must present
a recital program containing a minimum of ten numbers arranged
for concert.
181, 182.-Fourth Year Voice.
Scales suitable to the individual voice which will show advanced study.
One aria from opera or oratorio, selected by the teacher to show breath
control, ornament, sostenuto, staccato, diction, and varied interpretation,
according to the type of voice. The student must present a recital program
containing a minimum of ten numbers arranged for concert. A
minimum of twenty standard songs.
Note: Students receiving credit in Voice are required to report for daily
practice as prescribed by the instructor.
CERTIFICATE
At the end of the third year of Voice study a student may receive a
certificate by meeting the following requirements; Two years of College
work, two years of work in piano, two years of harmony, one year each of
counterpoint, composition, history and appreciation of music, sight singing,
and A Capella Chorus. A public recital of not fewer than nine numbers
shall be presented.
DIPLOMA
At the end of the fourth year of Voice study a diploma may be received
by completing the following requirements: Three years of college work, two
years each of piano, harmony, counterpoint, composition, and A Capella
Chorus, one year of sight singing, one year of history and appreciation of
music. A public recital of not fewer than nine numbers shall be presented.
115, 116.-A Capella Chorus.
The A Capella chorus is open to all young men and young women who
can qualify. Religious and secular programs are prepared and an operetta
is presented each year. Two traditions of the chorus are caroling at
Christmas time and a twilight sacred concert at the end of the year.
This chorus makes many public appearances in and around Abilene.
Two rehearsals each week. A student must be a member of the chorus
for the entire year in order to receive credit for the work, and must
commit to memory all of the songs studied. A ladies' sextet, and a men's
quartet are selected from the chorus by judges not connected with the
college.
All courses in Theory of Music are credited hour for hour toward the
B. A. or B. S. degree.
