A study of te, borne as an institution for the development of personality,
the relation which should exist between individuals in the
home, and between the home and community. Lecture two hours

LIBRARY SCIENCE
aMiss BISHOP
Courses in Library Science are for those students ,who wish lo qualify for
positions as teacher.librarian or librarian. The work is very thorough and
much time is spent in laboratory work in the library, working with the books.
Classes are kept small in order to allow ample time for discussion and
the solving of individual problems.
Students over thirty-five, and those who do not intend tt to ake up library
work definitely are not encouraged to enroll for these courses. Classes are
not usually open to freshmen.
321.--Classification.
The classification of books. Dewey Decimal system. Laboratory
problems. Five hours of laboratory work a week. Authority file.
322.-Cataloging.
Cataloging rules for the dictionary card catalog. Subject headings,
Sear's list, and Library of Congress. Filing rules. Making of a
shelf list. Ordering and using L. C. cards. Problems worked out
in the library during laboratory hours.
230.-Library Methods.
Principally laboratory. Routine of library work. Under supervision
of the Librarian. Work in the various duties rotated among fne students.
Topics studied: ordering, accessioning, circulating, shelving
and keeping library during laboratory hours.
'350.-Book Selection.
Principles and methods of book selection for libraries. Most important
aids to book selection.
:351.-Reference.
By the working out of definite problems the student becomes acquainted
with the most important dictionaries, encyclopedias, magazine
indexes, and other reference books.

Requirement of six hours of mathematics for a degree may be met by
any two of the three following courses: 312 (Trigonometry), 311 (College
Algebra), and 31D (Analytical Geometry). If the student already has credit
for trigonometry in high school, he must take 311 and 314 to meet fne requirement.
