3. Teachers.
The summer months are the most opportune for you to improve
your teaching ability. Why not make arrangements to advance yourself
in position, and incidentally, to increase your income? Why not
let an institution whose reputation in teacher-training is at present
most excellent and is increasing more and more each year, assist you
in making this improvement?
CERTIFICATES
The matter of certificates that qualify to teach in the public schools
of Texas is entirely controlled by state legislation. The present laws
of Texas provide for the certification of students of Abilene Christian
College along with those of other similar institutions on the following
terms:
1. Three kinds of certificates are issued.
a. Elementary certificates, which are valid for four years or
for six years, or may become permanent, depending upon the
amount of work done by the applicant, as given below. These
certificates are valid only in grades one to seven inclusive.
b. Temporary High School certificates, valid for two years, for
four years, or for six years, depending upon the amount of work
done by the applicant, as outlined below. These certificates except
the two year ones are valid for all grades of public school
work.
c. Permanent High School certificates, valid for all grades in
any public school.
2. These various certificates are given students on the following
conditions:
a. No certificate is granted a student who has not completed
at least one full year of college work. By one year is meant
540 class-room hours.
b. At least 108 of the 540 hours must be done in the department
of Education. In case of those who apply for certificates
on the basis of a second, third, or fourth year collegiate work,
108 hours in Education will be required for each year.
c. Upon the completion of the first year of collegiate work an
Elementary certificate valid for four years or a High School
certificate valid for two years may be issued, the applicant
having the option between the two.
d. Upon completion of the second year of collegiate work an
Elementary certificate valid for six years or High School certificate
valid for four years may be had, at the option of the
applicant. The Elementary certificate becomes permanent when
the holder has used it in teaching five years.
