erly educated unless there is a sufficient number of well
qualified Christian teachers. It is the purpose of the
Department of Education in Abilene Christian College
to assist in meeting the demand for academically and
professionally trained Christian teachers. Since this is
a Christian nation every individual who wishes to teach
in the public schools of the United States should accept
and practice the essential principles of the Christian
religion.
Facilities for Observance and Practice Teaching
A model elementary school is maintained in the Zona
Luce Education Building. The primary room has the
first grade. The intermediate room has grades two, three,
and four. The grammar school room has grades five, six,
and seven. Each of these rooms is in charge of a specially
trained critic teacher. This serves as a model school
where student-teachers may see expert' teaching done under
average conditions. After much observation and
careful preparation, student-teachers are permitted to do
teaching under the supervision and the direction of the
critic teacher. Students who expect to do high school
teaching find ample opportunity for! observation and
practice teaching in the Academy. Education students
also have the privilege of observing the work of the public
schools, both in the city of Abilene and in nearby
rural schools,
ORGANIZATION
This department has its courses arranged in three
divisions as follows:
1. Courses in the field of Secondary Education.
2. Courses in the field of Elementary Education.
3. Courses in the field of General Education.
There are also special methods courses, and courses in
Educational Psychology listed under other departments.
REQUIREMENTS SOR TEACHER'S CERTIFICATES
1. In order to secure the four-year elementary or the
two-year high school certificate at the end of the freshman
year, the student should do Education 300, 310,
and 314.
