RELIGIOUS CULTURE
It is the aim of Abilene Christian College to put Christianity
first. All students, in College, Academy, and Training School,
study the Bible. More work in Bible is required from all students
than in any other field except English. This study does not
consist of teachings and theories about the Bible, but of the Bible
itself, memorizing of choice portions, outlining entire books,
grasping the thought of the whole and the interrelationship of
the parts and the actual facts of the Bible.
In order to put Christianity first in the thoughts and activities
of the student body ample opportunities are given in both
religious worship and in practical service. In all the meetings
outlined below, a worshipful, respectful attitude is fostered and
the religious spirit is deepened and enriched.
Chapel Exercises.-Once each school day the students assemble
for chapel exercises. These consist of hymns, readings
from the Bible, prayers and earnest, inspiring talks by faculty
members and visiting brethren.
Church Service.-Students are urged to bring with them
their church letters and to associate themselves actively in the
local church worship. All are expected to attend church services
regularly Sunday morning and night. In addition to these
regular preaching services, they are invited to the Bible school
Sunday mornings at 9:45 and to the prayer and praise services
Wednesday nights.18
